Alchohol During A D&D Game?

Beer and cider are welcome at my group's gaming table. I don't drink beer (can't stand it) but I usually have a bottle or two of Woodchuck when I'm running the game.

Cheers,
Cam

There's been many a time when I would do belly button shots and then tell the wench that I was leaving for Iraq in the morning to fight for my country, etc., etc., etc. Oh, you mean, the other kind of roleplaying sessions...Yeah, I'll have a beer now and then...

It's an "eh" situation for me as a GM. A few weeks ago one of my players brought a sixer and stuck it in the fridge and finished it over the course of the game. But he's a stocky lad and I honestly never even noticed. Neat, too, as he took his empties with him to the kitchen when he went for refills.

I wouldn't want to make it a focus of the evening, though ... y'know: "Who brought the brewskies?" I, myself, stopped drinking entirely when I got married.

Alot of that is because I went to grad school when I got married and I'm too freakin' poor to drink. Hard enough to keep soda in the fridge.

God I hate poverty.

I'm 32 years old. I've never consumed alcohol while gaming, and neither have any of the people I've ever played with. We've never even considered doing so. (And, yes, we do drink at parties and social functions.)

Like I said, I've never really thought about it. But now that I am thinking about it, I think that I have enough trouble remembering all my character's feats/skills/modifiers/special abilities/background story etc. *without* any foreign substances clouding my mind. It seems to me that playing D&D with alcohol would be a complete disaster.

Needless to say, YMMV.

A couple of my players have been asking if they could have a beer or two (or three, probably) while we play. I've always had a ban on alchohol durin game, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm being too strict. What do you think?

As long as no one is driving. We've never had any problems.

By the way, nice comic in your .sig.

When I gamed with Australians we always drank beer. It was never a problem. I haven't recently, but maybe I should - it might help to prevent getting hung up on square-counting and getting the mods exactly right on every die roll. :)

for the group...

I play with now, we occasinally have a couple. Never hurt the game. The group I had before, one of the players showed up every session with a case, and drank most of it himself. after a couple of sessions I put the kibash on alchohol at games then. lest my game run away from me.
