D&D 5E All a single or thematic racial party

We have played monsters in a Halloween special. I played an ogre. It was fun!

We also played Monster race Warlord. I played a Hobgoblin warlock. We were poking at each others all the time. It is the Gnoll Hunter who wins the quest.

For short period high thematic party can be very fun.

Never been that enthused about it for the simple fact that none of the players I play with actually play other races any different than any others. So having an "all-dwarf" or "all-tabaxi" or "all-kenku" party would not result in a play experience any different than if they were playing all humans. So in that regard... if the players don't actually embrace what all being that other race would be... there's no point in me setting up a campaign that asks or demands it of them.

If they are going to play a party full of firbolgs exactly as though they were a party of humans... why bother restricting them from playing something else other than firbolgs? Because obviously, the "all-firbolg" party has literally no meaning for them.

I've always wanted to run a campaign where everyone played halflings that were all part of a traveling circus/troubadour act. :p
...or the other side of the Fineous Fingers saga...

We have one 5e campaign that consists of 4 1/2orc barbarians from the same tribe.
Granted, in thier first adventure, one of them got turned into a dwarf and another into a winged elf.... But they're still 1/2orcs at heart. :)

I was just wondering if anyone was concidering the possiblity of playing a game based around a single monsterous race or a group of monsterous races tied to a theme?
Done it before. I've played in an all-Kobold party. The campaign I'm currently finishing out is all Fey. My wife runs an all-Goblin game at a local convention every year. All-Goblin games are also big with PF.

It's a thing, alright. Volo's'll be good for 5e, that way. Opening up some more playstyles. :)

Last year I played in an all orc party, we had a Paladin, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Thief, and my Necromancer. Now we started a new campaign with the 2 surviving orcs, my Necromancer and the Thief(reincarnated as a Kobold). We also have an orc Warlock, human Ranger, dragonborn Fighter, and goliath Fighter. We are going after 3 Demonlords that escaped from the underdark and the army led by an ex-pc dwarven Cleric that converted to Jubilex.
