All Dailies should be *reliable*

They seem to be making the asme mistake of fire and forget they claim was rampant in 3e; daily's are only usable 1/day,and its no fun if you use your daily and have it miss. So I think it should be that every daily acts like the fighter's *reliable* dailies; i.e. you don't lose the power on a miss. Otherwise I think it will become a popular houserule.

Thoughts.?

I agree it's unfair. I would houserule that you have up to three attempt with your daily powers. After that it's try again tomorrow.

EDIT: If there's no miss effect in the description.

The point to the "Miss" option is to make a Daily a strong effect even if you don't get the big bang of a "Hit".

The point to the "Effect" option is to make a Daily a strong effect no matter what happens.

The point to "Reliable" is to make a power more reliable without giving it extra effects.

If you make all Daily powers Reliable you need to take all the other effects of them away and make them all Hit dependant, this would be a bad plan.

I really recomend waiting to see all the rules before worrying about what needs to be houseruled. We've seen less than 20 pages of the PHB in essence, once we have over 200 pages we will have something to debate wrt adjusting power balance.

From what we've seen so far, it appears that this problem is already taken care of. Either the daily power has some significant effect even upon a miss or the power has the reliable keyword and can therefore is not expended on a miss.

Although I can definitely see your point and have had similar thoughts, on balance I also think it's reasonable to have powers that don't always work.

If you go down the road of allowing things to just work, then you start to lose any sort of excitement in the game because you already know the outcome. Sure, it's disappointing to miss, but it's also exciting to hit and even more exciting to crit. That randomness is dulled the more assured you are of success.

I think everyone is on the same page here:

Basically all dailies are already *reliable* in some way or another.

Side note: IMO i think its better to have the power deal half damage rather than being reliable. That way, you don't waste your turn on a miss.

FourthBear sums up neatly what I was thinking (an most other, apparently).

glass.

House Rule #1: Action Points can be spent to reroll a dice.

Not quite reliable, but at least a second chance...

I would be highly surprised if this doesn't already exist as a luck feat of some sort. I'm sure it's been done in 3e in Eberron or some such place already.
