All Dailies should be *reliable*

I think there's a fair balance between one daily power that will connect eventually, and another that will have some effect no matter what.

Be careful doing this - it will have unintended consequences in game balance.

Take the elven racial power - Elven Accuracy: reroll any one attack. In 3rd ed, not that big a deal, really. In 4e, where you could choose to reroll your attack roll on your daily power, it's a lot better. Making all powers reliable puts it back on the 3rd ed level - not very good.

Elven acuracy would still be very valuable, since even if the power you miss with is *reliable* you can use elven accuracy to reroll in the SAME round, instead of waiting for your next turn.

I'd still call that a big downgrade - "wait a round to use it again" is a far cry from "that's it, it's gone".

Out of all the daillies we have seen there has been only one that can miss outright making you lose the power, and that is split the tree. But split the tree gives you 2 attack rolls using the highest of the two so you'd have to be pretty unlucky for a miss.

Might be a big perk of the "elven ranger" archetype, too.

I'm very much against this idea. The risk of failure is what makes it fun, imo. The to hit rolls for non-reliable dailies are very dramatic.

True, it does increase randomness which has the consequence of reducing the importance of player skill. But I feel 4e has already done a lot of good work to reduce the amount of randomness in the game. What remains is significantly less than previous editions but still enough to provide a bit of a thrill.

If it weren't for the fact that
1)a bunch of other dailys have "on miss" or "effect" abilities
2)there's a fairly easy way to get per encounter re-rolls
3)The Fighter's dailys (or at least the one we've seen) appear to be specifically nerfed to make up for the reliable ability

I would likely think about it, but as it is, no, I'm not interested in this as a house rule.

I am interested in ways to allow for "recharge" mechanics for encounter and daily powers though, although I want to see how the game works in play first.

-The fighter FINALLY gets something nice. Lets leave it that way. The fighters exploits being reliable actually makes me want to play a fighter in 4E. Then there is allways multi-classing in 4E. So your character can have some reliable powers. Yeah, no more 4 level dips anymore!!!!:)
