I would love to submit article ideas, but it's hard to know what has a decent chance of getting published. The way the game seems to be changing and the fact that we have no clue what's in the pipeline at this point, I have to wonder whether whatever I'm developing is either going to be obsolete because of some other development or that WotC just doesn't want to go in that direction.

There is no way WotC is going to be able to reply to each and every submission. That is just not realistic.
As for what to submit? Pitch ideas you think are cool and don't worry about what you think will get published. If you keep worrying about what you think will get accepted, you might never make the mark. You're forcing yourself to conform to standards you don't even know exist.

Eh, someone has to look at it. Does it actually take more than a couple extra seconds to hit 'reply' and say "Nah, we aren't interested in this topic." or "learn to spell" or something.
I know, there are many pitfalls in that and it does take a minute. OTOH it really is very hard to zero in on what might possibly get a real response with no feedback at all. Can't really criticize them for the way they're doing things, everyone else is the same way. Still...

I've submitted 20+ articles/adventures in the past month. They were all old ideas I had lingering on my hard drive, topics which interested me. Not all of them fit neatly into existing article series either. Just go for it.
