D&D (2024) Alternate 2024 DMG Cover features Lolth!

Mimic is the other monster they're pushing for brand awareness. A big slobbery one seems like a real contender for one of the Monster Manual covers.

I can see them going for the mimic for sure, for the brand recognition reasons you suggest. Assuming the artist and the style is the same for the alt cover, I was thinking maybe a displacer beast, since that's a distinctly D&D monster and the pseudopods and displacement effect would make a consistent visual with the whirling gold dragon and webs/legs of Lolth.

<shrug> Close enough. This looks like a much cuddlier iteration of Lolth than I think the cover of the DMG warrants.

It's fine, but boring. It's a static image. She's doing very little, there is little in the background, there is not much adventure implied. Why are you guys so gah gah over this?

Because it evokes an immediate reaction emotionally, and isnt just the same old 'here's a party in hero pose' thing like the main PHB art.

I'm getting some OG Planescape vibes from this cover. Lolth in a vaguely Tony DiTerlizzi style.

I'll definitely be getting this instead of the standard cover.

Hmmm, I'm awaiting the conundrum I'll have if I vastly prefer the alt cover, because I prefer the standard PHB over the alt ... do I go for consistency or just get the different style covers?

Yup. Action hero pose meh. Statue of moloch, dungeon, campfire scene are more appealing.

Think I'll go with the alternative art just prefer the style.
