Some people like action scenes a lot. I do not at least in the cover with stupid looking posing.

Lolth is also fairly iconic vs generic dragon and adventurers.

I would be fine with a group sitting around a campfire fire.

Sure, but there is a difference between an action scene and a static image. If a character was sleeping, sure, it could be "Static" but if you showed me a picture of someone painting, I'm not going to say the image is "Static". There is motion and action in that, even if it isn't an "action" scene.

He doesn't have to be a PC for "and all your decisions were pre-ordained by the gods, you've never truly had free will" after nine or so novels to be a kick in the pants to the readers and fans.

IT can be done well, not saying it cannot, but it would need to be handled very carefully. (Second disclaimer, I haven't read a Drizz't novel since the Crystal Shard series)
