The alternative covers are available from local game stores.

While attending Gen Con, I was given an art print of the alternative covers for the upcoming Forgotten Realms books.

The left side of the print is the alternative cover for Heroes of Faerûn, while the right side is the alternative cover for Adventures in Faerûn. The alternative covers are available from local game stores.

they seem to understand that with their print + digital bundles at least, possibly with the FR digital bundle too, depending on what the DLCs will cost individually
Yeah, but they keep this very basic marketing strategy for themselves and leave it up to the rest of us to eat into our margins or lump it.

Can you imagine what the 2024 PHB, DMG and MM would have looked like if they were given the same alternate cover treatment as these two books? :)
I found the existing alt covers drop dead gorgeous, frankly. I wouldn't say they miss the mark on these ones (and the market seems to agree).
These ones are a total success too, though. Distinct, singular but unmistakably dungeony. I'm sold.

Yes, that would be nice --- like when they issued the 5.0e core books gift set in a slipcover with a DM screen and Hydro74 covers in 2018, which was three years after the core books were originally released in 2014. I'm not saying they would necessarily have to use Hydro74 as the artist since WotC said they've moved on to other artists (although I definitely like his work), but at least they could do a different version of the alternative covers than the ones originally released. Also, there would have been plenty of time to incorporate all the errata, as was done with the 5.0 gift set.
As much as I liked the revised 5e alt covers, I am waiting for the inevitable slipcase with errata before purchasing physical copies.
