Alternate Monk Weapons?

First Post
I remember reading something about different monk weapons based on different martial arts styles, but I have no idea where I read it. Could someone point me to it or tell me it doesn't exist? Thanks.

just house rule it to either give them some more weapons that you apporve of for monk weapons or do somthing like let them change some existing monk proficencies for others. but as always oversee any choices they make, dont want some monk running around with a greatsword now do you.

or were you thinking of the martial arts styles from dragon where if you have certain feats you get a small extra bonus or were you refering to the feat that lets monks use other weapons in conjunction with their monk flurry of blows?

Its an idea that has come up in several threads I've posted in...because I keep saying it. My repeated posts may have warped your mind!

While there isn't anything out there that I know of that lets you mold the entire class to more closely model martial artist archetypes other than the Shaolin, the Dragon Compendium does have something for you.

There are 2 feats, Pole Fighter and Unorthodox Flurry, that allow you to add new weapons to a PC's list of monk weapons. Pole Fighter adds a polearm to the list, of course, and Unorthodox Flurry adds a light weapon.

The Eberron book has a few feats that allow you to flurry with alternate weapons. Longspear, longsword and double sword. Though you must first weapon(exotic or otherwise) proficency the weapon first so it takes away two feats right there.

Though I personally think there should be seperate lists depending on the style. Like perhaps I would like to be more of the European scholar monk...who lears to fight a bit for excersize or what not...wouldn't shortsword, club, quarterstaff, longspear, and maybe perhaps pike or a polearm might also fit. especially if I went the Irish monk rout. perhaps there is a way to talk it through with your dm what weapons should be classified as "monk weapons" depending on what your vision of the monk is. Though if you move too far from the standard vision you may be better just moving over to the cleric side and playing the part differently.
