Alternative cost/time calculations for Craft skill?

Hi there,

Can anyone point me to some alternatives for how to handle Craft skill with respect to the time and money involved? I'm interested in the Book of Hallowed Might II's rules for Mastercrafting items. These are basically masterwork items that can have different kinds of bonuses, not just +1 to hit, and that can have larger bonuses. The price goes up a lot, of course, which is fine, but by normal Craft rules it takes many months or even years to make certain items that I'd like to envision being possible in a somewhat shorter time frame, even if that required more money to be spent or some other balancing factor.

Thanks in advance for any pointers,
MC

Unearthed Arcana (NOT Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed) has a section on skills, and a variant for crafting.

The variant uses Craft Points, which are spent to speed up the crafting process. It is assumed that the Crafter was working little-by-little on the item, as time permitted, and pays the craft point cost to finish the item "overnight".

Additional variant feats are added, to make Masterwork crafts more meaningful (using the variant, the Craft Masterwork XXX feats are required to make Masterwork items). Each Item Creation feat (including the Craft Alchemical Items, Craft Masterwork Armor, etc.) adds to your pool of Craft Points. It is a pretty good system that I am putting into play in my campaign.

Additionally, Races of Stone adds the idea of Dwarvencraft items : Masterwork + increased hardness and hit points.
