Am I alone in this?

For years, I've had this weird food habit. I loved cooked tomatoes and any other form of tomatoes like tomato sauce and tomato paste. But I absolutely loath raw tomatoes. Heck, heat tomatoes for a bit and I'll eat them. But I think they taste different once warmed up and I think raw tomatoes taste, well, icky. Am I alone in my oddity or do other people share this taste?

Similar, but not the same. I like tomato sauce/paste, so long as it's well-spiced and well-pureed. I do not like tomatos in any other form, raw, cooked, cold or warm. If it's identifiable as a tomato and not red sauce, I don't like it.

But I love raw onions, while mostly disliking them cooked.

Raw onions are teh bomb.

Whew. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. :)

The rest of my family think it's very strange. My mom had to become used to me as a little kid reaching up and stealing raw onion slices as she cut them up. Heck, even now, if there's cut onion for hamburgers, I'll eat them separate from the burger. Wouldn't want to ruin any of that delicious raw onion flavor, y'see.

What kind of onions? Or does it matter? I'm not a huge fan of raw onions, but I like purple onions or Vidalia (that's vie-DALE-ya to all you Yankees) onions on my burgers because they're sweeter.

There is nothing like a chilled fresh from the garden tomato sliced up on a plate with some salt, pepper and a little olive oil sprinkled on. Gimme a knife and a fork! *drooling*

Just standard, run-of-the-mill onions you'll find in any major grocery store. I prefer them to the purple ones, though I do like the sweeter onions. But I don't want my onions polluted by any burgers!

I think a lot of foods change flavor when cooked. Carrots, for example. I'll eat 'em cooked, but I much prefer them raw and crunchy. (Gollum impression coming on...)

When tomatoes are cooked they're usually mixed with spices and other stuff, too, which will change the flavor a lot. So I don't think it's really that odd. :)

There must be some kind of flavor change because I like them when put, by themselves, into a pan and warmed through.

I know that a lot of food experts say to not put tomatoes in the fridge, because it changes their chemical compisition and, therefor, it's flavor.

I'm a sucker for refrigerated sliced tomatoes with a sprinkle of substitute salt (KaCl). Table Salt doesn't do it for me, however. It's something I picked up from my mom when I was in my pre-teen years, and it's still a bit of a treat every now and then.
