Am I the only 3.0 grognard left?

Chainsaw Mage

First Post
Seems everyone around here (meaning my home town) only wants to play 3.5. When I tell them I happen to *like* 3.0 and that I even (gasp) didn't think there was anything wrong with it, they look at me as if I've grown a second head.

Am I the only one who loves 3.0? Who prefers it, even? Seems there are more AD&D 1/2e die hards than 3.0... :(

I'm lonely. :(

There aren't so many differences between 3.0 and 3.5, there are a few, but they are relatively minor IMO. Of course, since I play 3.5, I play a ranger... ;)

My table will always be 3.0. I also play in a 3.0 game. I have far too much invested in 3.0 to switch, and honestly, I didn't really have any problems with it. Well, other than the sorcerer, which 3.5 hasn't improved adequately, and the Haste and Harm spells, which I fixed myself.

It's my perfect rules set, so why on earth would I switch?

I'll be playing 3.0 until 4.0, and maybe even then.

I'm with you. I play D&D now and again (I mostly play other games). I just don't play D&D enough to justify the switch. In a subsequent edition, that is a maybe.

I play a mix of both, mostly 3.5 but a good deal of 3.0 mixed in like the apprenticeship rules. Both if someone wanted to play something that was in 3.0 and changed in 3.5, I'd be happy to try and come to a compromise.

My groups still plays 3.0. I really didn't see enough useful changes to merit a switch, and when I told the other's in my group that 3.5 was comming out the immediate general consensous was a rolling of the eyes followed by "I'm not buying that."

We haven't had any problems with 3.0. I may change Haste next time I DM, but that's about it.

Me, I mix and match... I like how the Ranger was fixed, disliked the weapon size rules, liked the damage reduction, disliked the shortened duration on buff spells, liked Haste being fixed...

The list goes on and on. So when I DM I mix and match till my heart's content.

I certainly think some changes were warranted.

But I also think some were totally unwarranted.

I play a hybrid game. I mostly fault towards the new rules for ease of reference, but some specific rules I specifically refer back to the old rules for.

Hold out? Sure.

Member of the Resistance? I'll give you that one, too.

Grognard? I don't think so. If you were one, you wouldn't misuse the term.

Now that we've taken care of that. Let's dispel the next myth...

And yet, you do not have your hometown in your profile, do you? I think you wear your 3.0 status as a badge of honor. I think you like making highly-detailed campaign worlds and never running them. I think you should come clean now and just admit that you don't even like to play 3.0 but need to justify the fact that you bought the books so now you hang around gaming boards and pull stunts like this! :]

Or you could just tell us your town and we'll hook you up with a game as we often do here on EN World... ;)
