Some of you may have noticed, most of you probably haven't, but I posted on the "What do you do in real life" thread that I work as a 3rd-shift stocker at the largest retail chain in the world. I hate my job, because it is unsatisfying, dehumanizing, and I never get to see the family that I work so hard to provide for. I injured myself about three months ago--a shoulder dislocation--and was released to full work duty about a month ago. To make a long story short, regardless of what the doctor said, I wasn't ready.
My complaints were made daily to my wife, who was sympathetic. When, after a few days, it became apparent that I couldn't keep up with my work, I was threatened with write-ups that would, I was assured, lead to my termination. Afraid for my job, I pushed myself to the limit, and succeeded, but with a price. I have had pain very morning since that night.
My wife, knowing of my complete disgust with my job and management's treatment of this situation and several others, came to me and said that I should turn in my notice and try to write. This has been my dream since I was a child, but I have never been able to implement it for various reasons, not the least of which has been the need to make a living.
Anyway, I have to log off, now--I'm at the library--but I thought I'd stop by and tell some other people who might be excited for me how fantastic my wife is.
