Amazing Engine

Wuz just thinking...

Anyone remember the Amazing Engine system? I played it back in the day, and although it had over-simplistic rules, the general idea behind it had some merit.

Maybe someone should put together rules for a sort of 'D20 Core' where the players can apply xp to the core as well as the character. With all the different D20 games out there, my group tends to swap games/campaigns every couple months because the next best thing has come out. Would be kind of cool if you could just transfer a core instead of making a new level 1 character.

I know, I know...just start at a higher level. Just something about having earned it that makes it a bit more worthwhile.

I think this is a good idea, and I would buy it.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but it might even work better for d20 modern. If they convert the For Faerie, Queen, and Country setting, then I will fork over the green for it.

That's an interesting concept, one which I'd forgotten about with AE, which I disliked in general. I wouldn't mind seeing such a system developed in a d20 or OGl game.

I liked some of the AE sourcebooks. Bughunters and Metamorphosis Alpha to Omega are favorites of mine. Magitech was OK, but...it suffered perhaps the most from what I considered the biggest failing of the AE sourcebooks - way too much space was spent on game mechanics, and way too little on the settings themselves. Magitech had a good chunk of its world info shoved into a rather tiny portion of the book, in smaller font than the rest of the book - and that stuff was what I was most interested in.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who liked FFQC.

Me, too. Great idea and a very interesting magic system.

I've floated the idea of a FFQC minigame to Erik Mona at Polyhedron on several occasions.

My dream is that Tony DiTerzelli would illustrate it. My God, that would be cool...

The more I think about this- the more I like the concept.

I don't have my AE rules anymore- anyone got an idea how hard it would be to convert the "core" rules to d20?

My favorite in the AE series was MagiTech. I loved that book. I've reread it a dozen times. Just such a cool setting. :)

Shouldn't be too difficult. The original rule book was all of 32 pages. The hardest part would be deciding what goes into the player core and what gets left behind with a character.

Maybe I should start some conversions...

Mmmmm...Bughunters :)
