The ships are extremely neat but the game itself needs work. The game feels more like football than naval combat. However, the ships just begs be used in D&D.

That's why I got two packs.

I found they worked very well. They are not even near to scale, so I ended up splitting my battlemat in two. Half was a high level view, with the coastline and the ships. Maneuvering and such was done there.

The other half of the map was usual character scale, for such things as boarding actions.

I've looked at the game, it strikes me as poorly worded, and would have been much improved with assumptions of a grid for movement purposes. I am considering reworking the game for stripped down naval combat rules.

Kind of reminds me of that excellent little game called Man O'War which I once used to play.

Wonder where that went...the GW homepage doesn't even mention it anymore.

I remember it had rules for sea currents and wind and stuff. :D

ARRR! I see ye have discovered the excellent Pirates game by WizKids! It be a fun beer and pretzels game. Also take a look at HeroClix . . . it's great!

Indeed. Pirates of the Spanish Main is clearly a game of style over substance - looks cool, plays awkward.

Man'O'War... now *that's* a game of naval combat I liked :)

Yep. Many times we play this game before we get into our biweekly rpg session -- it is a fun way to segue from Real Life (tm) to Game Time. :)

I'm not into CCG's at all really but I bought some packs on ebay because our group is going to be starting a Skull & Bones campaign. These things rock!! I'm hooked. I was amazed at the quality of the ships. I haven't played the actual game yet but yeah, it seems rather simplistic.

Yeah. That was a great game. I will never be published again but that game rocked the boat.

Me, I was into Bretonnians and I ruled the waves!

(Tip: Over at Boardgamegeek some dude has made rules and templates for playing Man'O'War with PoTSM-ships.)
