I emailed Amazon on this since my account says the books were to ship 2 days ago but obviously had not.
This was their response.
Sometimes, unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to our
original availability estimate. We have learned that "Monster Manual: Core Rulebook III (Dungeons & Dragons, Edition 3.5)" and "Player's Handbook: Core Rulebook I (Dungeons & Dragons, Edition 3.5)" is now back-ordered, and our supplier has not been able to let us know exactly when they expect to have more in stock. I apologize that you were not notified sooner of this change in availability.
To help compensate you for this unexpected change, I have upgraded the method of shipment for this order to two day delivery. There is of course no additional charge for this.
We will keep this item on order and ship it to you as soon as we are able to obtain it. We will not charge you for it until we ship it to you. On the date of shipment, we'll send you e-mail confirming the date, contents, and method of your shipment. </quote>

I'd just like to point out that my store will have plenty in stock with no back orders! 
I also estimate getting all orders mailed out on Friday the 18th!

Actually, a more approipiate demand would be HAVE A REALISTIC FRIGGIN' STREET DATE (AND APPLY IT EQUALLY, NON OF THIS STORES IN THE NETHERLANDS GET TO SELL THEM THREE WEEKS EARLY SHAT), PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE GOING TO GEN CON AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE DERN BOOKS BEFORE THEN YOU CHICKEN-LOVING SONS OF RICE FARMERS. At least IMO.

LOL! This is some funny stuff.
I pre-ordered mine on March 30th. The original ship date was 7/3/03 which (correct me if I'm wrong) the date WotC said the books would be out before they pushed it back 2 weeks.
Now, of course, my account says they were shipped out on the 3rd and the estimated delivery date was the 7th. This is nothing new. I've ordered/pre-ordered so much stuff from them that I know they stick by the street dates. The street date is 7/18/03 last time I checked. So with my overnight shipping option I should either be getting my books on the 18th (I have gotten things the day of a street date before, mainly DVDs) or they will arrive Monday as Amazon does not deliver on the weekends.
I suggest anyone else ordering from them to use the above info to see when your books will arrive. If you waited too long and are on the backorder list then I'd say cancel the order and get them from someone like TalonComics or your FLSG/Waldenbooks/BN, etc. Amazon has had those books on their bestseller list for many weeks so you won't be getting them in the first shipment.
Heck, I may even go to my FLGS to pick up the PHB that Friday night if my books don't arrive before the weekend.
Derek: Are you thinking you can get the books out with overnight shipping by the weekendand have them in my hands Saturday? How much will that cost total?
