but they have to take the "right" kind of risk.. otherwise they end up angering almost everyone anyway
Yeah, you still need to pick someone who can articulate a good idea and can show reason to trust that they can execute it.

You don't say, "what the hell, let's have Tim Allen or Jimmy Carr take over James Bond." Even if what they produced was interesting -- and that would be very unlikely -- it definitely wouldn't be something that would make most James Bond fans happy.

I'm just imagining a Solo-style prequel in which Bond drinks his first martini, drives his first Aston Martin, fires his first Walther and seduces-and-abandons his first evil henchwoman all in the same training-mission-gone-real.
Now that is just good writing lol. Admittedly the first book does kind of illuminate the character a bit, but all this business of showing how characters first got something that became a signature item feels very dull. I haven't seen Solo though because I heard it was awful

Bond in the style of cobra Kai? Is that a serious suggestion? 🤣

To be clear: no lol. I am just saying I can see someone seeing the success of Cobra Kai (which is an older property where they might be worried about how well it aged) and say "hmmmmm, it worked for them"

Have you read the novels?!
Nah, just seems like thwt would be a fresh approach, since during the older movies they were contemporary pieces and the subsequent films just advanced the character with current times. I assume the books were popular for reasons, and probably for similar reasons to the films. A Cold War period piece with Bond tropes seems like it would work.

I’ve read them. If you look at everything that was offensive in the early movies, and dial it up to eleven, you are almost there.

I think a historical setting is a good idea, given the current instability, but it would need to be a revisionist take.
