There are some tricky words (exceptions) that can screw people up. Most notable is the letter u.

a unicorn, just like you make a u-turn and not an u-turn.
Police wear a uniform not an uniform.
When it rains use an umbrella not a umbrella.

Pretty much anytime the u sounds like a "y" as in "you" it is "a"
When it like "uh" like in the example "umbrealla" it would be an "an"
