D&D 5E And Here Is Strixhaven's Cover Art!

It's not just The Wild Beyond The Witchlight's cover art being revealed today! We also have Magali Villeneuve's cover art for Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos! Strixhaven is an upcoming D&D setting based on the recently released Magic: the Gathering world, and features a mage school -- as Theros was to Greece, Strixhaven appears to be to Harry Potter!

The vast majority of people on Earth, when they hear "magical school sourcebook" are going to think "Harry Potter." Everything we've heard so far is marketing, which is about introducing the product to customers.
No one within the marketing department is comparing Strixhaven to Potter. Blaming that error on Wizards is bizarre.

It's just lazy people on the internet who have ignored months of Strixhaven content who continually insist it is something it is not.

"Hey, it's like a cartoon you may have never heard of and a kind-of hated Netflix show" isn't the best foot to lead with in marketing.
Wait! Is this not Harry Potter the D&D experience?

Missed a trick there. Pass.

A magic-school setting? If that's true (especially if it is "Potter-esque") I might actually be interested!

Also, if it IS centered on spellcasters attending the same school, I'd totally get Candlekeep mysteries for scholarly adventures.

If it isn't? Then meh don't care.
It is both of those things.

It was the first step towards a new approach. I was hoping for a system similar to the Xanathar's Guide life path, to allow a player and DM to define a whole new culture procedurally.
Yeah. Honestly I like the Lineages more at this point than Custom Race. Still would prefer it as a overlayer mesh though in regards to Lineages. WoTC has shown a number of times before that they seem to be "okay" with stronger player options or stuff.

I'm surprised the Strixhaven Alternative cover hasn't been revealed yet.
They could do it like the Harry Potter novels, with the standard "yes, I'm happy to acknowledge that I am a grown adult buying this childrens' novel" cover, and a "no, this is clearly a serious novel for serious readers" alternative cover.

If could see a development that would make each PC have a combo of Race and Lineage, like Elf and Sylvan, or Dwarf and Dhampir, similar to Class\Background.

They could do it like the Harry Potter novels and have dozens of covers they release each year from now until the end of time.

I can't wait for the oversized one filled with tons of deluxe illustrations in, say, 2040!

That would be interesting.

Still, I got no probs with like putting the Dhampir Lineage ontop of the Plane Shift Vampires race, or putting the Rabbit UA Lineage over on top of a Half Elf. You get yourself a Diplomat Bunny AND Jumping!!

Or my fave: Taking the Centaur Race, and applying the Owl Folk UA and flying on top to make a Pegasaur.
