Sadly, I think TTT will only win Best Visual Effects. I would like it to get more, but realistically, I don't think it will do much better than that.

I think the only awards TTT should win is Best Visual Effects and Sound/Sound Editing. Although I do think Gollum should have been nominated for an award. I don't think TTT should have gotten Best Picture.

I think this was a bad sign for the Two Towers. Peter Jackson did not get the nod, though a relatively unknown film did (Talk To Her). In my mind, that was an intentional jab. It may mean that the third movie will not get the best picture nod either.

Based on buzz here in Los Angeles, my guess is that The Hours will get best picture, though in my opinion it is far from the best picture. It's the safest pic of the bunch, and backed by the most folks in the "Traditional Hollywood" sector.

I will agree with The Hours. It has lesbians and emotional mumbo-jumbo up the wazoo. It is politically correct and the typical Oscar canidate.

As long as Chicago does not win. I saw Chicago this weekend and was anything but inspired. I was not a fan of the music, characters, dance scenes or story. It was well directed and Richard Giere did an excellent job and I am not usually a big fan of his. The format of the movie is music, 30-120 seconds of dialog, more boring song and dance, 30-120 seconds dialog, song and dance......

The best part of it was I only paid $12 for 2 tickets and not $180 for a live production.

IMO Moulon Rouge (I spelled it wrong) was a much better film. I just don't get the Chicago hype.

"Talk to Her" is not a relatively unknown film to the Academy members making the nominations. It was chosen on many critics' best of the year lists. It's director, Pedro Almodovar, is well-known and well-liked in the movie industry, and his movies are well respected. He was nominated as best director to make up for his film not being nominated as best foreign language film, a category he won two or three years ago. It couldn't be nominated because his home country, Spain, didn't submit it for consideration.

So Jackson basically got bumped from best director this year to make room for Almodovar. He was the one to get bumped because he was nominated in the category last year.

I think Jackson will be nominated for best director next year, and RotK will be nominated for best picture next year as well, unless Jackson just really botches the job. So far, all indications are he won't.

Only 6 nominations? It's funny, all the film critics over here think it better than the first, yet it gets only half the nominations. It's a weird, weird world.
