They just announched the oscar nominations, and Andy Serkis did not get nominated for Gollum. The two Towers got nominated for best picture.

You expected any different? A fantasy or sci-fi movie has to be two the movie any other movie has to be before it is even considered for nomination. There has been a bias against both since the little self-congratulatory pinheads have been giving each other awards to swell their heads.

I am not sure who says Hollywood is against smoking, but I have not seen it. Chicago does have a lot of smoking, but smoking was a lot more common when that movie takes place.

I am going to bite my tongue on the tobacco issue since I will make it very political.

I hate to say it but there is a very real possibility that Serkis did not qualify to be nominated under the rules. In fact, that was my own interpretation of the rules.

Hollywood is often critized for NOT being against smoking. What makes you think they are the opposite?

Hollywood as a whole no longer makes smoking look glamorous as they did in generations past. Most people who smoke in movies are also depicted in a neg light, they are villians or have major personality flaws.

Look at the dance scene they show for Chicagio(SP?) looks like they are having a grand old time.
