Angel 1-14-04 (SPOILERS)

First Post
I actually was dreading this episode when I first heard about it.

I was pleasantly surprised.

Poor Harmony! She and Wesley have all my sympathy right now. And Harmony stuck up for him! Woot!

And she is so much hotter than Eve. Seriously. Getting out of her bed.... daaaaaaaaaaaaaaang. :p

Nice to see Harmony and Fred bonding though.

Gunn looks more and more to be turning into a deus ex machina. He suddenly speaks demon languages? Argh.

Wesley is still woefully underused.

Didn't the commercials promis Cordelia? or did I misremember something?

Started slow, but the ep got pretty good towards the end, I enjoyed it very much.

I would bet Cordy is during February sweeps, and probably only for an episode or two. Last I knew she was leaving for good to take care of the baby.

Nice episode. That one moment where they have the dramatic pause and the music while Harmony and the woman who set her up (see, I can't recall her name either!) pull out the dueling chopsticks cracked me up.

Distressing lack of Spikey goodness, but except for a few of the "Pathetic Harmony" scenes at the begining where I chanel surfed, I liked it quite a bit. I loved the line near the end "I don't have a soul, I have to work harder at it". And her feeling of self worth because she mattered enough to someone to cause hate was great. Exactly the sort of thing her old high school self would have found redemption in.

But nothing beats the chopstick duel. :D

But on another note, speaking of high school, would it be safe to say that someone who is vamped early in life doesn't develop past that point either physically or emotionaly? Or not easily? Its hard to say whether the "annointed one" from Buffy years one and early two really was emotionaly childlike or if they just played with that in conversations...

Wow. Did they air a different episode outside of North Carolina than the one I just watched?

I watched it with my wife, brother, and good friend, and afterwards we all agreed that it wasn't just the worst episode of the season, not just the worst episode ever of Angel -- it was the worst episode of any Joss Whedon show any of us fans had ever seen. Alien IV was a masterpiece in comparison. Hell, Friends kicked this episode's sorry butt.

Problems:
-None of the witty dialogue was.
-None of the surprises were.
-The guest actress was lame.
-The exposition was amazingly clunky.
-The villains exposition, in which she explains her plan to us, made us all yell, "WE JUST WATCHED YOUR PLAN!" My jaw literally dropped when she just kept on and on explaining her idiot scheme to us. Hello? That was the last forty minutes of the show that you're explaining!

I'm the only one of the four of us who watched it who didn't start off hating Harmony. By the end, I want to write a condolence letter to the actress who plays the character, for being given such a humiliating part. I mean, I want her gone from the show now, make no mistake, but that's not the actress's fault.

And why exactly isn't she gone? She basically assaulted and kidnapped several employees -- including two staff members who were vital to preventing a war between two demon tribes -- when the going got tough. I can barely understand Angel's decision not to stake her. Barely. But there's no way he ought to be keeping her in a sensitive position. And by sensitive I mean "on the show."

Gah! I am filled with disgust and loathing for this episode. I've never ranted before about a Joss Whedon show, but this one suh huh huh ucked.

Or maybe someone just hijacked our TV and showed an old episode of "Charmed."

Ummm, Harmony prevented the demon combat by staking the chick on the confrence table, no?

The high point of that episode was the Weyland-Yutani reference in the promotional video at the very beginning. After that, it went downhill very fast; a-meteorite-screaming-through-the-atmosphere-and-crashing-into-the-earth-has-less-downward-momentum fast.

I've never liked Harmony; in all of the Buffy/Angel universe, there's not a single character i like less.

I've not been too terribly impressed with Angel this season, i certainly hope the rest of the season fares better.

As soon as the episode ended, my phone rang and I turned to my gf and said "This is Don (aka Negative Zero) telling me how much he hated tonight's episode" and sure enough it was and he did.

I didnt think it was that bad, but he was pretty disappointed.

I like me a good chopstick staking.

Yes Wesley is being underused this season, and the new Gunn isn't as cool as the old Gunn, and Fred has always been annoying, but I don't need every episode of the shows I watch to be the best I've ever seen and I thought this was fun.

Don seemed put off by the 6 week layoff into a filler episode with no mention of Lefty and Eve after the "cliffhanger" last epsiode, but I'll just sit and wait.

I'll chime in to say I liked it. It was a silly episode, and I love this sort of stuff. Now, mind you, Buffy and Angel are silly shows to begin with, so it's hard to up the silliness and still make it work, but I found the whole idea of following a day in the life of a blonde ditz soulless vampiress entirely delightful.

I wonder if the same people who are disliking this episode disliked the X-Files's "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" or "Bad Blood."

I thought it was great. 'Right Biter.' Heh heh.
