I would like to speak up for all the new watchers who are only watching angel now because spike is on it. I refer to the show as "Spike". "I get to watch Spike tonight". I get annoyed when they waste screen time on mr dark and brooding and take the spotlight off my platnium blond boy toy. I say things during episodes which cause my fiance to give me fake pouty faces. I never watched Angel before and started ONLY because of spike and will now watch it religiously.

I'm EVIL I tell you!!!!! PURE EVIL!!! look upon the face of your enemy, the enemy of all that is good and continuitous and built up over seasons of your dedication! Cower before my shallowness and market driven hype! See a Spike fangirl and DESPAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmm.... replays lovely memories of naked spikey goodness.... :D

I have been a fan of both Buffy and Angel since the start. So I would watch Angel even if Spike was not on. But the fact that James Marsters is now a regular is the whipped cream on my pie. Some of my favorite episodes of Buffy and Angel were ones when Spike and Angel flex for the alpha male spot.

I was disappointed when my prediction that
Reaper would be Jack the Ripper
was wrong,
I'm not. That train of thought has been used so many times that it's old, stale, and cliched.

As for the rest of the comments: Yup. Spike throws off the dynamic of the show, but so do Fred, Gunn, and Lorne. Fred and Gunn might be okay, if Joss didn't keep stirring the pot (add Lorne as a regular, add Connor, remove Cordy) and actually gave things time to settle down and gel. Still, Lorne bugs me -- great guest but he gets old if I see him for more than 4 episodes in a season.

Always thought Spike was a great villain, but never really cared for him since he got the chip. I was just finally getting used to him on Buffy. Now, Marster seems like he's phoning in his role. Besides which, all his interaction with the other characters (besides maybe Fred) seems pretty contrived.

Oh, and Fred's definitely cute. She wasn't when she first joined, but she most certainly is this season. (Do we need a "Is Fred cute?" poll?)
