Animated Shields

It seems to me that for about 9,300 GP any character can have a +3 armor bonus to AC that stacks with suits of armor, rings of protection, etc., and still dual-wield, cast spells and do just about anything. Are arcane spellcasters still subject to spell failure when using an animated shield? Do they require a concentration to use?

No; no. Still the shield's bonus won't stack with mage armor or bracers of armor.

Ack!

Here's another question: Can an enemy grab your animated shield and run away with it? Or wield it unanimated until you kill them? I know they can't grab a dancing weapon, but it doesn't seem like animated shields have the same safeguards...

While we're on that question does an animated tower shield act as a permanent shiled spell.

No because it would not protect you from Magic Missiles.

Hmm. I might allow it, but it would take a standard action and provoke an Attack of Opportunity, so I don't think it would happen much.

No animate on a shield?

Could you be specifc? Where in the DMG does it state that you can't animate a tower shield? A page number would help. Is it errata or something?

You can not put the animated power on a tower shield. It is stated in the DMG.

I believe you are mistaken. I don't see this anywhere in the DMG. It's not in the errata, either.
