Posted August 20: Can you export a character from one saved game, and import it into another? I updated with Heart of Winter, and now my kids' specialist mage can't learn fireball (I snuck my mage in first....). Thanks,

New stuff:
wow, installing heart of winter really upgrades the experience in IWD.

About Heart of Winter: do I want to finish IWD before I play HoW? Also, anyone play IWDII, how was that game?

my wife hates this game, I play too much...

I just installed IWD, after owning it for years, and don't really play videogames, but I'm hooked (I know, sad). But, I have no idea how a mage learns new spells other than copying them from a scroll. Is there another way?

thanks (I'll take any other tips you have.... also).

Scrolls and Leveling up were the only 2 ways I remember. Oh and if you have a paladin make sure you search the body behind one of the houses in the Artisan's district of Lower Dorn's Deep. Now when you scroll over it will appear as a normal long sword, but its actually a holy avenger named Pale Justice.

Weird, though. I leveled up and there were no 2nd level spells in the mage book until I wrote them from a scroll. I guess my question was: can you put them into your spell book any other way at higher levels?

No paladin in the group, can you dual class to that one?

You are correct, you can only learn new spells by copying them into your spellbook. Which sucks because when you level out in the field, you don't always have the next level of spells to learn to make use of the new spell slots.

But what a great game (IWD2 is just as awesome, and is like 3x the size)

OBSESSED. Damn, must have tried for 2-3 hours to get through one room last nite, and couldn't do it. But, once I go back, I have new plan involving oily fire and fire resistance potions...skeletal mage and 2 wights, plus a lot of other stuff - who woulda thought it would be that hard!

Icewind Dale is a great game. Not much of a plot, but it has a much better atmosphere, setting , and even more glorious music than that of the original Baldur's Gate. :)

I would have finished Icewind Dale 2 as well, if it wasn't so damn hard.

Icewind Dale 2 tip: Four PCs are better than six! The fast leveling is superior to the extra actions. With four PCs, you can actually use those LA races like Drow and Smurf.

I had a fun party of 2 Smurf Monks and 2 Drow (one Wizard & one Cleric). A "mated pair" and their two slaves. :)

Cheers, -- N

I think if I was starting over, I'd go with 4 or 5 characters. The ability to level faster and get them better equipped would be an advantage (I'm only in the Vale of Shadows, so that opinion could change).

What I haven't mastered is the ability to not just rush the whole team in and start swinging....

Buff, buff, buff, buff, summon, send summons, bombs away, engage and clean up. ^_^

You are smart and dynamic, they are static and stupid. You are a force of nature, they are only there for you to crush.
