Another polearm feat

Land Outcast

Explorer
Close-Quarters Polearm Fighter [Fighter]
You are skilled at attacking with the butt of your spear.
Prerequisites: Str 13, proficiency with any polearm.
Benefit: When attacking with a polearm, you can strike adjacent opponents with the butt of your polearm, dealing damage as a quarterstaff of your size. This feat cannot be applied to longspears.
Note: Enhancement bonuses don't apply to the attack if the butt hasn't been independantly enhanced.

Shove Back [Fighter]
You force nearby opponents away with the butt of your polearm.
Prerequisites: Close-Quarters Polearm Fighter, Improved Bull Rush, Power Attack, proficiency with any polearm.
Benefit: When you use the Close-Quarters Polearm Fighter feat, you may make a free bull rush attempt against that opponent. You don’t get an attack of opportunity for the movement. Add the damage dealt in your first attack as a bonus to the bull rush Strength check.

So, what do you think?

Ahhhhrg! I can't remember how the non-sharp-end of a polearm was called... Mind Blank!

the stick? :p :D

i like the idea and the heavy preq makes it balanced, even a little weak as it will so rarely come into play. would be very cool for a polearm PrC.

edit: would it really be too powerful to let him use this bull rush as a full attack, he'd be sacrifising itinerary attacks for a special effect which may fail.

:D haft, thanks

So, does it seem ok?

I think it would apply in quite a number of situations, I mean, people close into melee quite often.

I think it's fine. The alternative would be for the fighter to step back 5', which works as well in most cases. You should probably limit the bull rush to the reach of the weapon, though.

Reminds me of the moblins in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. They carry the equivalent of longspears, and if Link moves in up close one of their favorite tactics is to turn the spear sideways and shove him back with the haft. The really annoying part about this is that they are also in a good defensive position to block sword thrusts, so it's actually harder to hurt them if he gets in close and doesn't keep pressing attacks to keep them from getting their guard up.

The back end of the polearm is called the butt; the haft is the straight long middle bit (the pole). Making a Bull Rush attempt as well seems a bit too good. I'd suggest TWF as a better prerequisite than Improved Bull Rush, and simply say that this feat allows you to make a standard off-hand attack against an adjacent (but not your main current one if the same size or smaller) opponent for a base damage of 1d6.

The thing is that:
The feat solves the situation for one that is cornered
TWF requires Dex 15 (I had thought to include it as a prerequisite)
You already need three feats (given, you'd have P.A. anyways, but you'd take I.B.R. just to qualify for this feat, most of the time)

EDIT: Butt then... poor me :p

Not in my opinion. A bull rush for each attack is way too strong. A bull rush is already a standard action, now you're allowing it for every single attack in a full attack (but strangely not a regular attack). I think it should be at least a standard action to make 1 attack + the free bull rush, and it cannot be done as part of a full attack.

One other comment, it's okay to restrict the attacker from not getting an AoO, but you might want to clarify that the opponent's forced movement does provoke an AoO from others.

(you don’t get AoO for his movement due to movement caused by the Bull Rush) :D

The thing is that if you succeed with the bull-rush, I thought it'd be cool to be able to use the displacement for something (i.e.: attack with the polearm's reach).
Given that a standard action doesn't allow you any more attacks, you'd move it... and then he'd move back 5ft to be adjacent to you, again (given: you can step back... hum... maybe youe right after all)
