Semantics. Check. Fragile sensibilities ("boycott for product removal" is much more PC than "censored"). Check.

Where do you get "PC" from? That is another term often used in the context of slanderous misrepresentation.

Gotcha. I was under the impression that you would boycott a store based on the book's mere presence. Maybe I got you confused with someone else, I'm to lazy to go back and check. ;)

Kenjib - Cool. I disagree that this book or any other will have a noticeable affect on public perceptions of the hobby. And I don't hold it against anyone that they casually hope that the product will fail. I only hold it against them if they threaten people with financial harm for stocking the product.

Actually I agree that it is highly unlikely that the book will even make a ripple. Nontheless, I just don't like the possibility and I don't like the potential for the sub-market expanding.

All-righty, for someone who isn't up to speed with "industry-giant" Hickman's indignation, can anyone recommend where I can read his own words? I either missed the posting of the initial details in some other thread, or Hickman's opinions are something that people are routinely assumed to be privy to :)

Much of the DragonLance stuff I'm familiar with--gully dwarves, tinker gnomes, and oh-so-lovable-and-fearless kenders that take out death-knights with a single backstab--but not the fellow's personal politics (heck, just found out he was a guy).

Here's a link to his personal website: http://www.trhickman.com/navigator.html

Please note that it uses Flash, but it's pretty spiffy.

Wow...

Just wanted to say a couple of things (and not one of them about the Hickman/Valterra angle) :).

1) Bravo! Although a little heated, the debate running in this thread is impressive. I personally disagree with most of you, but have enjoyed reading your comments and hearing your perspective. I wish every forum I lurked in was so civil.

2) Immorality is an incredibly personal subject. It saddens me somewhat to see it used in this debate. It's far too subjective for me.

3) Kudos to the moderators, I see there are several threads raging about this right now and what I've read of them they seem to be under control.

I have almost no opinion on the BoEF (or whatever the current acronym is). That is all. Have a nice day

Pardon? What was the rest of your post? It was hard to hear over the deafening shouts about "elf porn" and people living in their parent's basements.

That, my friend, is a very enlightening argument as to why boycotting a store for carrying a particular product is a form of censorship. I can honestly say with no sarcasm that I now understand completely where you are coming from and the relative merit of the basis for your argument.
