Right. So why not have 20 hive threads? Why not pages and pages of them?

You know you are being disingenuous. You too would prefer only one active hive thread at a time, you just don't want it to be an official policy that the thread be locked before starting a new one, because you would have to go without a Hive thread for a few hours.

If the mods want that, that is there choice. We would not live without a thread, we would use the report a post function and have someone clase it. If the mods perfer that option, I'm more then happy to obliege.

If the mods would allow us, I'm sure we'd be happy with 20 of them or pages and pages.

The current active Hive thread started at 09:59 AM.
The prior Hive thread did not stop until 02:21 PM.

Now explain to me how that is only a "short transition" and how it is "rare" for there to be two Hive threads active at the same time.

That simply should not happen! Have your Hive thread - but only one. If you cannot police yourself, it should be policed for you, which means locking the old thread before starting the new one, and waiting for the new one if you have to until the old one is locked (and using the chat forum). It's only the polite thing to do.

Mistwell - I've just done exactly what you just did - I went to check those threads for times. But you haven't considered the content of the last few posts of the other Hivemind thread.

On my timezone it was around 5 that the new thread started and around 10 that the old one was last posted on. However - two posts from the end of the old one, it was Ashy saying 'I've started a new thread', around 5 o'clock. For some odd reason Airwolf then posted 5 hours later on it -I don't know why this was, and it certainly isn't normal, but I guess it is because the server problems meant the old Hivemind thread stayed near the top of the page for longer than is usual. The final post was Crothian saying 'we've got a new thread, use that one' to prevent anyone else posting on the old thread.

if you go to the last page of that thread, you'll notice no one had posted in it for hours before Airwolf bumped it

according to who? we have permission to be here. we wouldn't be posting Hive thread if we didn't

Guess I'm just being silly, but I think arguing about this is insignifigant.

If you believe you have a good point Mistwell PLEASE take it to the moderators..

My personal belief is that the hive is harmless communication. Those who don;t like it avoid it, those who visit are welcomed, and if one has problems relating to strangers then posting on a message board will not fix that..

As far as 'moving posts off of page 1 too quickly' there is a bump policy, and if you are posting a serious topic in the General thread expecting a response, 9 times out of 10 it's in the wrong place...

General is genral.. hivemind while sometimes scattered is general conversation.. and RPG oriented topics have a lot of places to exist.

The hive did not ask to be moved from the accursed Meta forum, but the moderators made that call. There were limitations placed on those who enjoy this communication.

No, the hive is not a chat.. a chat is a chat. It is a conversation, as are most of the general threads, albeit a conversation where people post quite quickly.

Once again, please take your concerns up with the Mods and Admin staff.. no one here is violating any one elses right to read threads or engage in intelligent conversation.

That's becasue one person made the mistake of not noticing that the thread was shut down. You might notice the time of the third to last post is a lot closer to the short transistion time.

So in life, if you CAN do something, it automatically is polite?

Okay key point here is this... there is not a moderator on call at all times to follow the hiremind thread closures.. but they get removed and locked when they are noticed.. sorry they spoil your enjoyment of EnWorld.. I think general is a dumping ground that serves for topics not RPG oriented enough to exist in the other forums myself, so I ignore those threads I'm not interested in readin.

This is a ... wierd question. Not quite sure why you've phrased this one like it is. My answer to your question as you've phrased it above is no, just because you CAN do something doesn't make it a polite thing.

I feel you meant to ask something else though...

all i'm saying is that we have the permission from the admins to post. if they didn't think it was appropriate, we wouldn't have that permission

i don't understand how anyone would think what we're doing is impolite. how is it impolite?

Okay, class, listen up.

Hivemind threads are allowed because it's basically harmless and fun and promotes a sense of board community. It's limited to one thread at a time so that it doesn't clog up the boards.

It used to be strictly in Meta, but then we (edit: meaning Morrus) decided it could come back here if it were limited to one thread at a time. I think this is a good move, as it opens up the light-hearted, whimsical, be-yourself nature of the board to people that normally wouldn't be bothered to go to Meta.

This isn't Darkness' personal pet project. Darkness alone isn't responsible for setting up the context in which a subset of the board is enjoying themselves. Trying to pin onto Darkness the added responsibility of making sure there's only ever one Hivemind thread is not only unfair to Darkness, it flies in the reality of a message board that's running 24-hours a day.

Finally, good freaking grief, what is it about Fridays around this place? I'm going to lock this thread down. If you want to, you can continue in the current Hivemind thread, or you can just shut up, already, because the Hivemind and the Pantheon have never been such an imposition on your lives that it should be this important. You want to really complain about something and make a change in the world, there are plenty of people starving, suffering terrible political persecution, and/or dying of various diseases curable and incurable. Expend as much energy helping other people as you do complaining now about other people enjoying themselves and maybe, just maybe, the world will be a better place.

EN World is a darker place because the Pantheon got chased away. There's no need to make it even darker by making sure no one ever is allowed to have fun with something that you, certain individuals, don't want to join in on. Good day.
