Then Darkness should take responsibility to actually close AND LOCK hivemind threads BEFORE someone is allowed to start a new one.

And I have been in Hivemind many times. Little RPG discussion actually takes place, nor is it easily accessable information for non hiveminders (or even for Hiveminders who are not there at the actual moment of the discussion, since Hive pages go by so fast). If people actually want to discuss RPG stuff with other people on Enworld, they would do better to make it a thread itself. As it stands right now, all you would get is a cliquish participation, which alienates people on the board who are non-hivers.

i'm sorry you feel that way. i've been in hivemind for about a month and don't feel any exclusion. the hivemind is very welcoming, and is growing quickly. it also builds community, which is really what en world is about. posting in the hive is less formal, so if you have part of an idea, it's fine... also, it gives you instant response, in case you can't wait. also, what happens when darkness isn't here? do we just exceed the post limit?

EVERYONE is a hiver. So many people have said many times that anyone is welcome to join in. Sorry if you missed those posts.

But it is cliquish. Sure, anyone can go in there - but not anyone can get a response, nor will people usually veer outside of the familiar in ANY kind of social situation. In addition, most people simply cannot keep up with THAT many posts, so don't even try. If you want actual wide-spread discussion of your RPG ideas from a variety of sources, posting it in Hive is not the best way to do it.

It is not exagerated. There is almost always two hive threads on the front page. I'm sure others can back me up on this...it's a fact, not something I am imagining.

Second page can't be TOO low in the traffic - it contains posts from TODAY. People who live on the west coast have not even had a chance to see them yet, after getting off of work.

This thread is a protest movement. It got your attention, didn't it? One RPG thread bumped to the second page is a small price to pay for actual attention to the issue. Meta doesn't get many readers...you will get a better discussion here (for now).

Well, meta is the place to discuss this. If you are concerned with threads being bumped, it would be better to move this to a place where it won't do the same thing.

You're right, the second page does have threads in it that people haven't read. So, people have always had to go to page 2 for that. It was like that well before the HM threads came to GF.

There is a chat forum for instant response.

When Darkness can't be there to close it - you STOP (god forbid!). Yes, that's right, you actually wait without a Hive thread until it gets taken care of. That would be the polite thing to do, if you respect the other users on the board who do not choose to deal with Hive.

So you admit it is an issue, and rather than make it less of an issue by adopting a policy that reduces the maximum number of open Hive threads to one, you have no qualms with making the issue that much worse?

Mistwell - all it means is *one* more thread slowly going down the page as other threads are bumped. I don't see why this is such a problem?

It's not as if it's causing a dozen other threads to be lowered to the 2nd page; it's not as if it clogs the boards up.

We stop in one thread and go to the other. Then the big thread slowly gets dropped to the second page at the same rate that a closed thread would. We are polite and follow the rules as they have been set up for us. I'm positive the mods would have spoken up if that was not the case.

It's not an issue. What the difference to goto page two to veiw 20 new threads verse 19? One has to go to page two anyway.

An issue? You speak as if a Hivemind thread takes up the entire front page. The number of open Hivemind threads is one anyway, only occasionally becoming two during a transition from one thread to another during which, usually, only two or three extra posts are made on the now redundant thread.

After that, the redundant thread drops down the page as the threads are bumped, in the same way any thread that has lost interest does so. In this way Hivemind threads are no different to anyone else.
