I don't normally allow evil PCs simply because it's evry difficult to justify the other PCs being willing to work with them. In the right group of PCs, I'd allow it. And if a character is high enough level to have levels in a prestige class that I'm allowing, I'd definitely allow the prerequisite to be met in the background.

what other stuff do you suggest i add to his backstory?

Reasons for him to adventure with the other PCs without doing something silly like killing them. And a couple of hooks which might let the other PCs accept him.

Incidentally, who are the other PCs?

reincarnated halfling female sorc 14 (formerly male gnome)
shield dwarf male monk2/ranger1/fighter5/justiciar5
human male fighter2/cleric6/morninglord of lathander5
shield dwarf male ranger6/rogue7

and 3 others as yet to be named but possibly elf male rogue 13
human male fighter 13
and human male ranger3/rogue3/horizon walker 7

I'd certainly allow someone to play a blackguard pc- I generally have a strange mix of lawful, chaotic, good, evil and neutral imc. As long as everyone is having fun we're ok.

HOWEVER, I usually _don't_ allow a starting pc to include roleplaying prereqs in their background. "Play them out" is my approach.

I thought Olgar was pretty against evil pcs?

he is. that's why i've got to work on my delivery. ;)

edit:
actually, this PC will probably be short term if i can get my other one restored. i was hoping to add to Olgar's NPC cache of BBEG to use against us.

due to demonic perpetual infightings, a blackguard could oppose all demons, provided he still obeys the one he had a contract with...

This combined with some sort of Undetectable Alignment item, to keep the paladins off your back, seems like a perfectly playable character to me. And it would be just like a fiend to use a crew of good guy adventurers to take out his rivals.

Yes I would.

i'm working on trying to sell this to my GM.

Just point out the hooks you put in your background for the GM to exploit, like the planar being you contacted, some representatives of your ex-church. If the character is constructive for the game, there should be no problem, unless your GM is paranoid.

what other stuff do you suggest i add to his backstory?

How did the character get involved in the religion he originally served?
Did he become straight paladin (i.e. chosen by the gods) or did he follow the religion for years before he reached this position (i.e. hard working character who chose his own path).
Who was the PC's mentor during this time? Is this mentor still alive? Is this mentor still around/interested in what happened to the PC?
How did the PC fall from grace? Did he fall first, then succomb to evil, or did he fall because he listened to the dark invitations of his new masters?
Who is this extraplanar entity the PC knows? Whom does it serve? Did the entity contact the PC, or the reverse?
What are the goals of the PC now? Does he try to bide his time by serving his demonic lord while searching for a way to escape his tight grasp? Is there a shred of light (i.e. empathy, remorse etc) remaining in the PC's mind? What could make the character shift back to Good?
