anti-sunder feats?

Are there any feats to protect your weapons from being sundered?

In concept, maybe something like 'softening' your grip so that it 'gives' when your opponent hits it instead of breaking?

Really, it seems like if someone is swinging hard at your weapon, you should be able to avoid it. And even counterattack, for that matter.

I don't know of any. Right now the best way to avoid gettign your weapon sundered is to have it made out of Adamantine. There is also a spell in Magic of Faerun that increases an item/object's hardness. That would be a great way to prevent sundering. You could probably even convince your DM to let you permanency it on your weapon.

Ways to help against Sunder:

  • Have a high melee attack bonus. If you win the opposed attack roll, the sunder attempt against you fails.
  • Use your AoO to your advantage. Try to disarm, trip, or otherwise prevent the enemy from completing his action. (Unfortunately this doesn't work if the foe has Improved Sunder.)
  • Wield a two-handed weapon. You get a +4 bonus on the opposed roll.
  • Be larger than your opponent. For each size category of difference, the larger opponent gains a +4 bonus.
  • Have a weapon with lots of hardness and hit points. As LordAO says, adamantine will be your best friend here.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a feat that would help defend against sunder. It wouldn't see much use, and would be entirely wasted in many combats.

If you're the DM, you might consider adding a new feat entirely.
Were I designing such a feat, I'd have it provide a +4 bonus on the opposed roll when defending against both Sunder and Disarm attacks (so it has slightly wider applicability). Peg it to the choice of a specific weapon; give it prereqs of Weapon Focus with that weapon, and also a BAB of +4. Think up a spiffy name and you're good to go.

You avoid someone swinging at your weapon by making your opposed attack roll.

There's a houserule feat somewhere out there similar to Close Quarter Fighting... you get an AoO even if your opponent has Improved Sunder and you can count the damage against the opposed check.

<Picks up stick with hong-shaped indentation in it>

<Takes backswing>

<Looks again at Hong's answer>

<Drops stick and walks away>

Or in short - best answer yet.
