Antimagic field???

could antimagic field protect you from petrification - even when its not a very elegant solution??? - i wonder if the guys from wotc just forgot to put a protection spell into the book - Im sure MoF is something completly different. A solution would be to invent a spell but i dont like to mess around with selfmade spells - i want official rulings

And the fact that AMF doesn't negate magic, but suppresses it means diddly, right?

Negate...suppress...my bad.

And IIRC, that only applies to "ongoing effects". Can you be targeted by a spell while within an antimagic field? I can't remember.

And even if you can, it doesn't matter. Wanna know why? Because you're in a frickin' ANTIMAGIC FIELD, so how the heck is petrification gonna do DIDDLY to you? ;)

Here we go again.

No it will not do anything to you, well, except it will make you feel rock-hard when the duration expires.

Actually, it depends on the spell used but what the hell.

I understand that, but the question was "does antimagic field protect you from petrification" and the answer is most certainly "YES". If you're inside an antimagic field, magic can't affect you at all, no matter what. Sure, once the field collapses or you leave it, that's different. But that wasn't the question. ;)

So you're saying the correct answer is:

"Initially, yes!"

I can live with that!

You can be targeted by a spell or supernatural ability while inside an AMF, but you won't be affected by it until the AMF's duration runs out.

If you get charmed and the charm's duration is longer than the AMF's you will be charmed when the field goes down.

However, Flesh to Stone is an instantaneous effect, just like death and most damage spells. This means their effect cannot be dispelled. It also means they won't affect you at all if you're inside an AMF. If the spell was permanent, then it would be different.

So the only spells that have any chance of effecting you while you are inside an antimagic field (aside from those mentioned in the spell description) are spells that have a duration, thus they might outlast the antimagic field and kick in when it falls. Cool. Thanks. :)
