Any games?

After the end of the first Afghan war and the Mutiny, .......
The game I would run would begin during the time that the British Empire has officially ended its missions into the region, sometime during the late 1860s or early 1870s, as the Russians were consolidating their gains in central Asia and sending out feelers through the Karakoram to look for a way to enter the Punjab. Starved for intelligence of Russian moves, a secret mission is contemplated by the viceroy from his palace in Calcutta...

So yes, the Great Game continued well past the 1850s. :)

Something tells me you did not copy that off the top of your head. Sounds like a great time to game.

Shaman I would love to join your game when you get it up.

Sadly enough I did...yes, I are a nerd... :\

I think I'm going to end up running the Zorro-esque game - the Great Game would be pretty research-intensive to run right now, and I'm already running the African exploration game for our tabletop group and the Algerian war game as a PbP, so I think I'd rather take on something that's not quite as much work, to be honest.

That, and the Zorro game would be a bit more lighthearted - I think I need a feat like 'Signature Move' that allows a character to carve his initials in someone's breeches as an attack action...!

I love finding people with more historical knowledge than I have on a subject. That is neat you have that knowledge so handy. The Algerian war is when? During the 1950's? If so that is a praticularly nasty and brutal french secret.

A zorro game could be fun to join.

The war ran from 1954 to 1962, an incredibly brutal and unfortunate conflict - it brought down the Fourth Republic, incited repeated mutinies by the military, caused huge civilian protests over conscription and the use of torture, spawned bloody urban terrorism by both sides in the conflict, resulted in the deployment of more than 500,000 French soldiers, and was repeatedly argued on the floor of the UN, yet few Americans know anything about it.

How is your African Exploration game going? It sounds very interesting.
I'd say it's going 'okay' - we started this game shortly after our Modern game ended in a TPK, and while everyone is having a good-enough time, the genre doesn't appeal to them as much as our Modern game did. (Such comes from playing with X-Files junkies! ;) ) The group doesn't seem to get the same level of thrill sneaking around a ruined city in the jungle looking for an evil shaman as they did sneaking through back alleys in the big city looking for an evil necromancer...go figure...

After our current adventure is over in a couple of months, I think we may return to a different Modern game, and I'll decide what I want to do with Africa Incognita then.

I'd definately be interested if it was on old west campaign. I'd like to play a gunfighter or something of the sort. As far as "Victorian", something like the Masque of Red Death would be fine.
