any help for a winpy wizzard?

Go for an 'area control' spell set. Invisibility plus lots of summon spells can be good. Also, wall spells or web. Glitterdust can be fun (as it can blind and prevents stuff from being invisible).

There are tons of spells that can be cast while invisible that don't break invisibility, yet can help the party keep the enemies contained (or block some of the enemies from attacking the party).

You're not being very helpful, even though these fine folks who posted above me were happy to be.

Therefor, Master of the NPCs, I purport that you obviously do not need help, and so I shall not offer it.

As for Shield Other, in one of my live games we use it on one of the fighters. Saved him twice now from certain death - once from a gargantuan scorpion, and one other I can't quite recall - as he can now enter a combat and soak up incredible damage that would surely kill one of us otherwise (usually the rate of damage is higher than what we can heal/cure in the same time, assuming we can even do that).
Heh... this spell has given my group lots of laughs... the party's cleric also used it on the melee tank, but then neglected to stay as far away from him as possible... and ended up dying from way more dragon breath weapon damage then he really needed to take. ;)

Mac, was that comment in any way necessary? The guy was asked a question, he answered it. If you want more info, feel free to ask for more. If you don't want to help, there's no need to post at all.

To the OP:
The best way to stay safe as a caster is to never come up on the enemies radar in the first place. Try relying on invisibility and other stealthy options. Just a few ranks in Hide can go a long way at the correct moment. If you must be offensive with spells is ways that make you highly visible, try to work more on controlling the battlefield. Use spells like Grease to make it hard to people to approach you, or Wall spells to completely block yourself off.

Mirror Image is great no matter what.

My Wizard has been running around the G-series with AC 12(!). His second line of defense is Mirror Image. That and Protection from Arrows. No Mage Armor. No Shield. No Blur.

His first line of defense is his brave meatshields.

Commit these words to memory:

A buffed meatshield is a happy meatshield. A happy meatshield will do insanely courageous things to prevent the monsters from touching his buddy the Wizard.
