More than the G series, the hints seem to be that they are tying into Troy Dennings Giant trilogy, which is FR and follows Giant mythology and royalty from what I gather.

And that ties back in with what I've said about the fairly extensive coverage of Hartsvale in SCAG - more coverage there than at any time since Denning's Giant trilogy was still new material! And you're right about other material tying into that; the whole backstory and history of the giants, as well as the ordning, as laid out in the MM is straight out of Denning's novels and the 2e FR accessory "Giantcraft" which was based off them...

The last line in the Hartsvale section in SCAG is intriguing: "If one or more giants decided to organize the ogres, I don't know if any in Hartsvale could stand against them." That definitely sounds like it might be planting the seeds of a future giants adventure...

I sure hope not. I don't need a book of monsters. I need a book of D&D IP creatures. Gem dragons, lung dragons, guardinals, heirarch modrons, etc.

The reason I need D&D IP, is because those creatures exist in my multiverse, and I don't want to have to try to convert them myself.

Totally and completely agree! You hit three of my "most wanted" right there (lung dragons would more reasonably need to wait for a Kara-Tur type book).

The Monster Manual is badly lacking in celestials, so hopefully we'll see more in a putative MM2. I can see why they may have avoided them, as they may have wanted to focus on more traditional foes in the fiends and not waste precious space on creatures that should be allies and not foes of most adventuring groups. And 4e left the traditional celestial organization in shambles - archons and eladrins are a mess, having been radically changed from their status quo from 1e/2e day;, it will be interesting to see if, like devas, they get reverted. But in any case, right now the Conjure Celestial spell is all but useless - I think only coatl, pegasi, and, at higher levels, unicorns can be summoned by it. We need lantern and hound archons, cerdival guardinals, and coure eladrins!

Fey are another area that needs more of the traditional D&D versions updated, both good and evil. Quicklings please!

See, I can happily go the rest of my life without seeing gem dragons again--though I won't begrudge them for other people, even though I don't get why people like them.

But what I do desperately want is 5E to keep the catastrophic dragons (from 4E), and the scourge dragons/linnorm (under whichever name/identity they prefer). I love those guys.

If the return of gem dragons replaces any chance of them coming back, then I would begrudge the hell out of them. ;)

(But I do agree that a new monster book, with D&D IP, is one of my primary desires for future product.)

Interesting point. I play D&D since 1984, but don't even know those monsters. My IP creatures live in Eberron books which I don't expect to see anytime soon in 5E monster books anyway. ;)

Guardinals showed up in 2e (Planescape), but the heirarch modrons would have been 1e Manual of the Planes. Lung and gem dragons were both in 2e, but I don't know if they were around for 1e.
