There's no such thing.Yes, preferably one with accurate CR.
For what I care they could roll CR with a d20.
Or just drop it. Nah, too easy.

No, an official MM2 is still needed.
Yes, preferably one with accurate CR.
There's no such thing, right now, and it's probably not possible given the assumptions of 5e class designs, PC generation, party composition (who knows what random group of misfits you might draw at an AL table, for example) and encounter design. But it's still something that has been done in the past and could be, again, so wanting it is understandable - just not realistic. There's no such thing.
Simple and honest, yes - probably more helpful to know that there's no way to know exactly how challenging an encounter might be to your group, than to have a false sense of security - but not expedient. 3.5 had CR, 4e had a similar stat, keeping the game familiar to players who started with those modern editions means having such numbers for the sake of familiarity, even if they don't mean much. Like everything else, it's a starting point for the DM, not set in stone.Or just drop it. Nah, too easy.
We will get an excellent Monster Book from Kobold Press anyway and Wizards knows about it. So perhaps they will go for a different type of book now.
Don't forget Droki theOK, there's madness, going 'down the rabbit hole', and the occasional whimsical NPC, but neither the plot nor the overarching story of Out of the Abyss was really informed by the story of "Alice in Wonderland".
Sounds like a job for a Dwarven Thrower...Let recap last season's tease: Alice in Wonderland.

Along those lines, I don't really see the Shakespearean reference being anything more than a reference to royalty, tragedy, and maybe a rebellious advisor. Given that King Snurre prominently features on the cover of the MM, my prediction would be a re-forging of the G-Series, focusing on Hall of the Fire Giant King and the relationship between Snurre and Obmi, his treacherous dwarven counselor. I also suspect that, in a pinch, WotC might do that one in-house, since Perkins already did a conversion of the G-Series (with an extra episode involving stone giants) for Fourth Edition.

The ancient war between Giants and Dragons got touched on extensively in the MM and DMG
