D&D 5E Any info on next release?

And that ties back in with what I've said about the fairly extensive coverage of Hartsvale in SCAG - more coverage there than at any time since Denning's Giant trilogy was still new material! And you're right about other material tying into that; the whole backstory and history of the giants, as well as the ordning, as laid out in the MM is straight out of Denning's novels and the 2e FR accessory "Giantcraft" which was based off them...

The last line in the Hartsvale section in SCAG is intriguing: "If one or more giants decided to organize the ogres, I don't know if any in Hartsvale could stand against them." That definitely sounds like it might be planting the seeds of a future giants adventure...

Yeah, that all seems to point in a general direction they may be going. They put seeds about Demons in the MM that they did follow through in RoD, Elemental Evil as well. I think they can do a Giant themed AP, without it having to be a retread of Against the Giants; in fact, one of the designers said recently on Twitter that one can run Against the Giants pretty much as written in 5E, and they are actively selling the old adventure in PDF.

That would be cool -- a strict re-telling of the older modules would be good nostalgia for older gamers, but a brand new story using some of the trappings of the old one (a la Princes of the Apocalypse) would probably work better for older and newer players alike.

With that said, they could still sprinkle in some Shakespearean elements to spice things up: the idea of 'rebellious daughters of an impotent yet beloved king' could inspire a long stretch of adventure all by itself.

Guardinals showed up in 2e (Planescape), but the heirarch modrons would have been 1e Manual of the Planes. Lung and gem dragons were both in 2e, but I don't know if they were around for 1e.

Hierarch modrons were first in the 1e MM2. Lung ("oriental") dragons were in the 1e FF and gem dragons were from 1e-era Dragon Magazine articles.

You're totally right that the Shakespeare connection is likely to be tenuous at best, as with RoD and Alice.

Hoping for a big sandbox full of Giantish stuff: lairs, stats, fluff, the works. Goliath reprinted, maybe, who knows what else?

That's part of the AL Rage of Demons storyline, isn't it? Something to do with a place called Szith Morcane?

Szith Morcane is a drow outpost below the Dales. It was in the 3E adventure City of the Spider Queen.

Don't have OotA yet, so I don't know if it's also mentioned there...but I think the two adventures take place in different regions of the Underdark.

I'm not sure why it would be a good idea to waste page count on Goliath when we already have a full color formatted presentation of it for free in the Elemental Evil Player's Companion. You can even buy a hard copy if you want.

Now, sure, they did that with Svirfneblin, but I really wish they wouldn't bother reprinting stuff like that if it was given to us free in publication polished format.

Indeed. The AL adventures all take place around the Moonsea. The Rage of Demons storyline is set in the Hillsfar area.

Which would make a SCAG-type book including that region something of a no-brainer. Not only would it help out AL players, but would inevitably cover nearby popular regions lake the Dalelands and Cormyr (and, presumably, many other places further afield...)

You'd think so, especially since Mike's already a good chunk of that part of the map (and I'm willing to bet he's done the rest of it too). That being said, they've almost run out of Moonsea cities in which to base their Expeditions seasons - there's just Zhentil Keep and Melvaunt left - so if their plan is to stay with the Realms for the foreseeable future, they might have to move ... and if the AL moves to the Dalelands or thereabouts, that would provide even more incentive to a companion to the SCAG set in that area.
