Any of you pine for AD&D 1/2?

I don't know what's wrong with me lately, but I find myself overwhelmed with nostalgia and pining for the Good Old Days (TM) of AD&D 1 and 2. Contrary to many, I really liked 2e (hated Player's Option stuff, though). And 1e, well, everytime I think of that ultra-tacky DM's Guide cover with the giant demon on front, and the lengths I went to to hide that book from my mom (I was in Grade 6 at the time, so hiding things from mom wasn't that unusual ;) ) I get all misty-eyed.

Out of curiosity, do any of you boys still play 1e and 2e? I've browsed on mortality.net from time to time, and I know they have a 1e/2e forum, but it seems populated by only 3-4 people.

Are there "lost tribes" of 1/2e gamers out there? Should I forget my daydream of playing the older editions again? Should I stick to 3/3.5?

Nope. Don't miss it at all. I still play AD&D 1E every other saturday.
I'm also running a basic/expert game.
My 3.5 game is on hiatus right now.

And I like them all.

Try dragonsfoot.org. There's a bunch of 1e guys over there (as well as 2e, Hackmaster, and Lejendary Adventure).

I borke out my 1E books over the weekend. Made up a couple of characters, and tried to get my old Commodore64 to work, and make up some random encounters off of the old program. (which didn't seem to work.. must get that fixed!)

I've really missed 1E, and thanks to another thread, I am think about sending my current game back in 'time' and play one session with those rules.

Perhaps the group will enjoy the trip as well done the prebuescent (sp?) rails of the 1E Express. :)

Nope, i never played 1E so i have nothing to miss. I played 2E but i like the rules from 3e Better. Its more streamlined and easier to introduce people to. I kind of miss 2E's atmosphere though. It had that classical medieval europe feel to the places and art that 3E moved away from (somewhat).

I don't miss it at all. Now, I'm not a 2e hater like the masses here at ENWorld (we had absolutely great times playing it), but 3.x is giving me the same fun experiences that 2e did, except now sessions go by a heckuva lot smoother.

It's the best of both worlds!

Whatever...

Adressing the original post...

Yes, Vindicator, there are many out there who are not big fans of the newer editions, and continue to play the game they love. Dragonfoot.org is probably the most active place on the Internet for lovers of OOP D&D.

Couldn't have said it better Arnwyn, this reflects my thoughts too.

what I miss most about 1e is the writing quality. The modules written in those days actually lived up to some set of standards. 3E mods seem like they were written by videogame designers.

Modules like slave lords, lost caverns, and isle of dread are what I would like to see. Alas, if you want to use something good in 3E, you have to make conversions with old stuff!

As to playing, I tend to play OD&D basic/expert, etc. I am also one of the Castles and Crusades playtesters. I cannot leak stuff, but I will tell you that 1e, 2e, and Basic/Expert grognards will all find satisfaction in this system-- which takes itself more seriously than I believe hackmaster does.
