Well, I'll stop short of claiming that 3E feels like a video game, because I don't play it that way. However, I think *all* versions of D&D lend themselves to that style of play. It's a race from one level to the next. Each powerup you grab (magic items, loot) enable you to gain a higher level, which grants you more powerups (spells, HP, BAB), so you can chase tougher opponents to get better powerups, etc, etc, etc, ad nausem.....RFisher said:I get these "BAM...I feel almost like I'm playing a video game" moments when playing 3e.
So, while you aren't shoe-horned into that kind of game, D&D certainly makes it easy to play it that way. I think 3E is the "most enabling", via the CR system, which assumes a certain level of magic will be present in each party.
But like I said, I don't get the video game feel from 3E, unless I am playing it like that. Your mileage may vary, offer void where prohibited.
