Any reviews of "Behind the Spells" PDFs?

I got the Prestidigitation one.

It hewed very closely to the Behind the Music format, which I guess I should have expected, but was more fluff about long-dead wizards than I needed. I suspect it would be more useful for other games than it was for mine.

I've got a few of them and most are pretty good, meaning 4/5 stars with a few 3/5 star ones thrown in. There are loads of reviews here on ENWorld under Ronin Arts, but you might also want to check the reviews on other sites such as RPGNow, where they're now listed under Tricky Owlbear Publishing (Bret Boyd, the owner of TOP wrote all the BTS products). I'm sure you'll find some reviews over on YourGamesNow as well where Ronin Arts still does business.

Ya, I've been slowly reviewing the series. But I took a break from them around Gen Con and haven't gotten back to reviewing them (or anything else for that matter). Check out the review part of EN World like Pinotage suggested.

Babbage: I think the bulk of the reviews can be found either here at ENWorld or RPGNow here: http://enworld.rpgnow.com/index.php?cPath=3935

If you like, I'd be happy to send you a free issue to let you see what the series is like. Just email me: bret.boyd (at) trickyowlbear.com

Whizbang: I'm sorry Prestidigitation didn't float your boat (I loved its explanation for the lack of Universal magics, but then I'm biased ;) ). If you or anyone else has comments about the series, I'm always listening.

While I'm here, I should also announce that Behind the Spells: Compendium (pdf and print versions!) is well on its way to completion. I have all of the interior art and the cover should be finished soon. The Compendium includes errata, extra material, and a few behind-the-scenes comments from me for every spell.

Now that's good news! Can't wait!

Thanks, Bret!

I sent you an email. I am interested in learning more about the Compendium, too. When will it be ready?

That is good news. I enjoyed the series and look forward to the compendium. The idea itself is unique and did work well into my games (from 3.x to C&C).
