I was wondering if there are any Valiant Comics fans here. Valiant was THE comicbook company and had the best stories in the early 90's. I miss the likes of X-O, Bloodshot, Harbinger, Eternal Warrior and Archer & Armstrong.
I think of all these titles Archer and Armstrong was easily my favorite. Then came Eternal Warrior (obvious connection there), then Hard Corps, and X-O. There were some great stories in these titles, too bad it went to crap so fast.
I really dug them. Dr. Solar Man of the Atom was cool. So was Turok X-O and the rest. I preferred Valiant titles to Image who was also emerging at about the same time.
This is an excellent article about the rise and fall of Valiant comics. Long but well worth the read. It's 4 years old, so the final section is now out of date but it's still a really great read.
I just hope that Priest gets the rights to Quantum & Woody back someday, and that he and MD Bright are able to continue the (mis)adventures of the world's worst superheroes.
I didn't follow Valiant during its day, which is probably a pity. I hear differing stories over whether it went to hell before or after Jim Shooter got canned.
Are any of the titles collected in trade paperback form?
There were a few. All of them are long out of print now so you'll have to find them through a second hand market.
There was Solar: Alpha & Omega (Solar #1-10)
Harbinger #0-6
Magnus Robot Fighter: Steel Nation (Magnus #1 - either 4 or 6)
The complete Unity Saga (every issue of the Unity crossover in a 4 book slipcase set)
X-O Man of War #1 - either 4 or 6
Valiant "Firsts" (reprinting the first appearances of various characters).
And a Quantom & Woody trade that had the first either 4 or 6 issues.
Those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head. There may be more.
I used to read them back in their heyday but not anymore. But then I don't get comics like I used to. Last time I got a bunch was at last year's Heroes Con in Charlotte. Maybe go back this year.......
