Any way to change "ownership" of a thread?

I'm no longer in a campaign and I was the person who started the thread for the character profiles in the Rogue's Gallery section (Wizardru's PCs). I was just curious if there was any way to "hand off" the thread to one of the people remaining in the campaign, short of simply restarting the thread.

Thanks

I don't understand what you mean. The originator of a thread has no 'powers' that anyone else on the board has.

Russ, would it be possible for the "new guy" to start a new thread, and then a moderator "merges" the old thread into the new thread? I've never actually merged a thread so maybe that's not how it works.

I think we can do that. There some risk that it might destroy ther thread, though; best you back it up first, and then let us know here.

I wasn't sure if the "Starter" of the thread had any authority over the thread and had been thinking about changing to a new account, so I wanted to make sure that it would be preserved. I'll get in touch with the person I was going to hand it over to about your suggestions and then post another message back here once he's started the new thread.

Thanks for the responses.

This is how you merge two threads together:

1) Copy the URL of one of the threads (lets call it thread 1).
2) View the "other" thread (thread 2).
3) In the admin drop down list in thread 2, select "merge threads" or something.
4) Copy the URL of "thread 1" in the URL field, change the subjectline (not necessary) and press the OK button.

It doesn't matter which order you merge the threads, all posts will be displayed ordered by date, no matter what.

THe only power of owning a thread that I have heard of is when you deleat the first thread all the rest are gone :) so the person that starts a thread can deleat the whole thread...but that is all I know of

You are mistaken; members cannot delete posts. Thus, the "owner" of a thread cannot delete the thread because he can't delete that first post.
Also, I believe that the "owner" of the thread can change the thread's title.

Psionicist is quite correct.

There is a way to change the "ownership" of a thread, however. Actually, I've even already done it so that Edena of Neith again had the first post in one of the IR threads (since he needs to post instructions first in the thread) after I've combined the thread with another (that had been started by someone else) since we Edena's thread was the "official" one but I didn't want to force people to repost their posts manually to the official thread.

Anyway, here's how it works:

1. Look for a post by the person who should gain the "ownership" - any post, in any thread - that is older than the original post in the thread whose ownership you want to change.
2. Make a copy of the entire thread in which that post is located, split the this copy into two threads: One of which contains only the post you need, and the other containing the rest.
3. Delete the aforementioned "rest" (but make sure that you don't delete the original thread rather than the copy!) and edit out the content of the post (i.e., the post that has/is its own thread now).
4. Merge the one-post thread with the thread whose ownership you want to change.

That's it.
(Note: Obviously, this can only be done by a Moderator or Admin. :p)

:)
