Any WIS based arcane casters?

Paragon gives 15 to each score

But that's LA 15

There's a Radiant Creature from DR321 p74

Dex 4, Cha 6, Spell like abilities, some other stuff

CR is 1 (or LA of 3 for PC)

There's Spellwarped from MM3 p162

Str 4, Dex 2, Con 4, Int 4
CR +1 for 4-10HD, CR +2 for 11+

Get SR = 11 + HD, +2 imp to NA, and Spell Absorption

There's Fire-Souled from DR314 p23
+4 CHA, leadership feat, a few other abilities
CR + 1

There's the Ghul, a child who survived when pregnant mother was turned into a Ghoul, Ghast, or a Lacedon from DR 313 p63

+2 str, +4 dex, +4 wis, +2 cha, has to eat intelligent creaturs, ages slowly, vulnerable to turning
CR +1

If you're looking for an int boost, I guess the best off the list would be spellwarped....

That would add to the trolls impressive defenses as spells that fail to overcome its SR would only help it.

Also, since wizard/sorc is considered nonassociated levels (at least the first 6 levels)

So a level 6 spellwarped troll wizard would have a CR of 10 (5 for troll, +2 for spellwarped, +3 for wizard levels). You've got a very durable spellcaster who can cast level 3 spells, has a decent int and spell resistance high enough to block half the spells coming at them.

Here's one statted up

Spellwarped Troll Wizard 6th

28 point buy
10, 12, 12, 16, 14, 10 – base
+16, +6, + 14, +0, -2, -4
26, 18, 26, 16, 12, 6 – modified
26, 18, 26, 19, 12, 6 – levels
HD 6D8 + 6D4 + 96 = Hp 140
Initiative +4
Speed 30 feet
AC 20 (-1 size, +4 dex, +7 natural) Touch 13, FF 16
BAB/GRP +7/+19
Attack Claw +13 melee (1d6 + 8)
FA 2 Claws and Bite +8 melee(1d6 + 4)
Space/Reach 10 ft/10ft
Special Attacks Rend 2D6 + 12
SQ, Darkvision 90 ft, low-light vision, regeneration 5*, scent, SR 23, Spell Absorption*, Spells
Saves 15,8,8
Feats (3 from Troll HD, 2 from Wizard levels (+scribe scroll), and 1 metamagic, item creation, or spell mastery)

Spell casting, as a 6th level Wizard
Spells known: 7 first, 4 second, 4 third
Spells per day: 4,4,4,3

Spell Absorption – If its spell resistance negates a spell, the creature gains its choice of:

- Might: +4 Enhancement bonus to Strength for 1 minute.
- Agility: +4 Enhancement bonus to Dexterity for 1 minute.
- Endurance: +4 Enhancement bonus to Constitution for 1 min.
- Life: Gains (5 x negated spell level) Temporary Hit-Points.
- Speed: Gains (5 x negated spell level)’ to base movement.
- Resistance: Gain Energy Resistance 10 to one type of energy
of the creature’s choice (either Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, or Sonic)

A Troll takes normal damage from Acid/Fire attacks

Tactics: A Troll Wizard most likely has taken the Practiced spellcaster feat to raise it's caster level to 10.

(S)he usually has mage armor which raises AC to 24 and even a potion or two of shield around to raise AC to 28.

Most likely keeps invisibility memmed for a quick retreat to heal

Could use the dragonskin spell (from Draconomicon) using black or red to gain fire resist or acid reist. This will also raise AC.

It's not a good class, but the Adept NPC class is a WIS-based spellcaster which gets a number of normally arcane spells on its spell list. Not inappropriate to a troll, either.

Thanks for the feedback.

Adept may be a viable option.

As for the templates, I would really prefer a troll that looks like a troll at first glance - a large set of bat, feathered or butterfly wings rules out most of the half- templates.

Nice one! :)

Complete Witch's Handbook by Green Ronin. The Witch is basically a sorcerer who uses wisdom, gets a few more skill points and bonus wizard style feats but a toned down powerwise spell list focusing on healing, charms, and divinations.

Agreed, good all around book too.

There is the spellcaster class from the generic classes in Unearthed Arcana. Choose to be a divine caster (wisdom is the casting stat.) You can then pick your spells from the cleric, druid, and sorcerer/wizard lists. Focus on arcane spells.

Spellcasting-wise you operate as a sorcerer does with spells known and spells per level per day.

Oh forgot...you get to pick what your good save and 2 bad saves will be.

Now, if this NPC is an opponent and the players figure what you did, Unearthed Arcana does say that generic classes and regular classes shouldn't be played in the same campaign. Personally, I don't think you need this, but you could up the xp award for defeating this NPC to compensate.

I briefly played a int-based arcane caster in one campaign. It was nice having 'cure light wounds' on my spell list next to magic missile.

Thanks,
Rich
