Anyone buying Dreamblade?

Out of curiosity, I actually went and tried the demo over at WotC's site. I actually like it quite a bit. Not what I was expecting; it's more like Magic meets chess with dice, sort of. Their design theory (an article there) explains some of their choices...and I might actually pick up a pack or two after all.

NO! After trying the demo, this game is just another attempt to get rid of D&D and do something else. (IMO) The figures all stand on a stand 1.5" base regardless of the size of the mini. (ala Wizkids) and has the states displayed there, trying to rebase them is a bad idea as most (not all) of the poses are tied right into the base to give the feeling of movement.

But other than that, the figures themselves aren't that good. Some are odd and maybe you could come up with something, but frankly, it isn't for me. I would have prefered an expanded DDM line of maybe a "singles" line for use in RPGs. Not at all impressed.

Well, there's now a decent gallery up:

I like the look of many of them. I'm not getting what the whole "the scale of the base is off, so they're worthless for D&D" fuss is. Since most of these are big, scary, inhuman things, they can just be played as large-sized creatures.

And if the base is too small to completely fill a 10 x 10 square, so what? Large D&D minis come on bases that don't fit perfectly into a 10 x 10 square either. In fact, they're round, and if putting something round in a square space is acceptable, then so is placing a smaller square in a larger square.

Their scale is a bit wonky. I have little interest in playing the game, if a figure comes up that looks cool I might buy a single on ebay.

Is this a running gag, or are three of these accounts alts?

What makes you think this is related to trying to get rid of D&D? Why would WotC want to do that?

... and I for one welcome our new slightly out of scale, but sometimes cool looking, overlords.

I don't play collectable games. I learned that early on with M:tG.

I bought a couple of decks for my wife and I to play (yes, I've been married forever) and some of our friends started picking them up, too. It only took one guy who had no other life and was willing to blow literally thousands of dollars on cards to completely unbalance things. Basically, you played with the decks he had put together, or you lost. And, he handed out enough cards in spurts. If you happened to not be around the time he handed out cards, you got behind everyone else, too.

I picked up a starter and 3 boosters last week. Haven't had a chance to play beyond the online demo yet, but I hope to soon. It's a bit of a let down that the bases makes the figures a bit harder to work into other games, but they're still usable, IMO. However, I'm picking them up not for use in other games as much as I'm just using them for Dreamblade.

A big plus for me with this game is I don't see the need to try and collect a lot of them as I'm just using them for DB. With SWM and DDM I try to collect most of them because I can easily find a use for every figure in the set (more or less). With DB, I just want enough to have some figs with neat abilities and enough for a few warbands, and I'm happy. I doubt I'll buy many more boosters from this set and maybe only 3-4 from any future sets (if any).

Running gag, but also echoed sentiment. If the figures were useable for D&D, I might pick them up, but I don't play the D&D Mini Game enough as it is, so I can't possibley justify buying a NEW minis game.
