Me too. Adult toy soldiers, ho.

Bah. You guys are crazy. As adults one would think you would enjoy the much more tactical game better. Give Dreamblade a go. Its an awesome game with a ton of in depth strategy...

I and my son have been looking at these for the past week. Some look very good for DnD use. As for buying a case blindly- aw...no.

I hope to look at a few to judge. It does bother me that there is so little revealed about them. Maybe 20-25 figures are availiable for viewing and the set came out TWO weeks ago.

Shooting one's self in the foot comes to mind.....

Say what? The full 96-figure set has been viewable right here on the WotC site since before the set was released.

I'm not interested in dreamblade at all. I saw the big tournament set up at Gen Con and it still didnt get me excited about this game. After talking to a couple of guys in there about the game, I now know I'm giving it a pass.

As I said earlier, I'm not getting into it because it's a collectable minis game. DDM is a bad enough habit to have.

I looked over the info on the WotC site, and Dreamblade does look pretty neat. I just refuse to play it because of the sales model.

I'm hooked.

Here's the thing... It's not a miniatures combat game. I mean, yeah, it uses minis, and there's lots of combat, but it's not like DDM or Warhammer or any of those...

It's a collectible board game!

And the game design is, frankly, phenomenal. Simple choices and deep strategies. Easy to get into and play right away, since there's no pointing out warbands. Just grab 16 minis.

The thing that amazes me most is that the concensus on Board Game Geek is very, very good. And collectible games are anathema to them. Pretty much everyone says either "I'd totally play this if it weren't collectible" or "I play this even though it is collectible."

Don't let the collectibility get in your way. It is well balanced, and the "money rares" (I think there's only actually one real money rare) aren't really more powerful so much as they just expand your options. In any case, if you're not going to play competitively it's irrelevant. If you just buy a starter and a few boosters, you can play just fine, you AND a friend.

Oh, and the designs are, imho, fantastic as well. I totally dig the weirdness of it all, which was my primary draw.

Only downside is that those damn bases are so big... Would totally love to have used some fo them for D&D. Of course, I still can as long as the critter in question is larger or bigger...

Nope, won't buy it.

I been saying this ever since they released it:

It will flop and flop hard

I'm just waiting to hear the thud.

to be honest, this is the biggest turn off for me. why not just make it a pure fantasy game?

A summoning game with mionis, fantasy feel, like chess.... over protection of the MtG IP
