Anyone catch the new Spider-Man cartoon on MTV?

I was pleasantly surprised. The animation was pretty good. Lot's of shadows and lighting effects. I especially liked the "cinematography"; sort of an attempt to use all the latest "hip" (or not so hip) camera techniques within the animation; fantastic use of panning, rotating, etc. One good example is where the scene changed while the kid was driving the car. While he was talking, the scene jumped ahead a few minutes to where instead of having his hand on the gear shift he's now standing beside a sidewalk vendor holding a hot dog. Neato. And except for the obvious fantasy stuff; people walked, talked, and moved like "real world" college students. Good stuff.

Awesome show.

Perfect. They did a good job with Spidey's wise cracks---not an easy task.

I can't wait to see more---and this is from someone who has been proudly MTV-free for years.

ps. Shiny costume is fine with me.

ugh.

the animation was nice. especially the fight scenes. although when they showed streets from above, the cars movements made it look like a giant game of frogger.

the art was a little less than ok. people looked alittle goofy, cars looked blocky. the over-done shadows weren't always in the right place. the backgrounds were just bizarre.

the color-scheme was BRUTAL. brightly dressed characters in front of brightly colored buildings. every scene was so busy with hundreds of different bright colors. what were they thinking? this alone made the show un-watchable.

doogie's parker was not good. just too stiff.

what's the point of having harry osborn as one of THREE regular characters if all he's gonna do is me the rich kid with contacts in every different industry (i mean WEAK PLOT DEVICE) and hate spider-man? if this is all he does EVERY episode hes pretty useless.

the "feel" of the show: the first episode spends 5 minutes focusing on what a loser max dillon is in the most cliche ways possible. their attempt to make me feel for poor little picked on max was so lame i coudlnt wait for it to end. awful writing. then after a cool transformation scene...we get... MAN MADE OF ELECTRICITY MAN? um, where's electro? wheres the cool costume? wheres max calling himself electro? now that he has powers all he's gonna do is get revenge on bullies? um. yay. how exciting.

episode two: i havent read a comic in a year and i refuse to read anything with the word ULTIMATE in the title, so i dont know if Cicada (sp?) has previously shown up or not. But watching a comic book villian for the first time without knowing who they are... i can see for myself what i always accepted as truth while others whined... you NEED to have the origin and power- definitions set for the villians if you really expect us to watch them. her powers seemed endless and her motivations nonsensical.

all in all, give me back the 90s spider-man cartoon which was pretty good. and the 90s x-men cartoon which was great. or fire all the writers and colorists on this show, and call me back when they hire more.

Wow. Awesome style and awesome tone.

And if they could ever get Spidey to move like that in a live-action flick we'd have the coolest rendition yet.

See. You can say something positive. ;)

I got it by accident. Didn't even know it was coming.

I thought it was great. I was impressed with the overall writing and I loved the visual style. The villains have looked great. Particularly Electro.

I did think it ws odd that in any seen where Parker was not in costumed it seemed Osborne ALWAYS had a cup of Starbucks in his hand.

Maybe thats why he hates Spidey. He just has a caffiene issue??

I would say it has more the edge of Ultimate Spider-Man than nomral Spidey comics, but thats not a bad thing.

Well Bendis is the creative force behind it, so it's his vision of Spider-man that comes through.

This I must agree on. the new look for Electro was great. Very creepy and evil. Not cheesy like in the comics. :)

Who was the woman in the second episode? I did not recognize her from the comics. Was she original to the new show or what? Thanks.

Yeah definative agree there. What I would like to see is old "Fishbowl" in a revised format. But if they do some good stuff with older spidey villains I'll be very happy. Just hope they do the setup for Venom just as well as the old Spidey from the 90s. (Though I missed the Secret Wars saga.)

As far as I know she was just one of those "bit" things they added. I don't believe she was ever in the comics. (To my knowledge.)

Originally I was not planning on watching it..I just thought it looked kind of 'odd.' So I missed it when it "offcialy" started but I did catch the first 2 episodes today by accident (channel surfing-ep. 1 was half over..Max was just about to get rejected by the, uh.."brown robed guys"- "frat dudes" I guess.)

I have to say I am glad I caught it, some of the animation was kind of colorful and a little odd but I pretty much liked it and acutally found it pretty easy to not let it stop me from enjoying the show.
I thought it did a nice job of following the Movie.
That's why his costume is "shiny" is because of whatever reason in the movie they decided to have the "webs" on spidey's costume be silver rather than black, they just followed that exapmle, so that didn't really bother me either.

And I kind of liked Electro and I didn't really feel sorry for him, yeah I thought they frat guys were jerks, but I was too busy being impressed with the show having the guts to let Elctro kill that guy.
I don't see Elctro as being a sympathetic character, certainly not the one in the comics, but not this one either. He is no Mr. Freeze, espcially when compared to the Batman animated version. That is really the only truly sympathetic character I have seen that I can think off, off hand.

I also found the "Green Ninja Chick" to be kind of interesting, she reminded me of Viper (that is the lady from Hydra that wheres the green jumpsuit and lipstick right) with some Jedi mojo going on and packing the Green Destiny.
She didn't seem to have that many powers, some kind of Mortal Kombat Tk attack and then her sword reflecting the moonlight gave her a kind of restorative power that they played in more detail further into the show.

I am excited to see the next ep. with the Lizard!

I'm hoping they have Paste Pot Pete and Stilt, great villains those.

Think more along the lines of Sandman, the Scorpion, the Hobgoblin and maybe even the spider slayers... In any case Stilt wouldn't be bad...but Triple P...not so sure about...
