In general I find http://www.badmovies.org/ to be an invaluable source for strange, oddball cult classics.

Of the ones on that site that I personally love ...

Meet the Feebles: Muppets getting up to some strange and twisted things. It truly boggles the mind who this movie was aimed at ... and yet somehow I love it. Everytime I watch this movie I go into it wondering why I'm watching it ... and by the time its done I wonder when I'll get to see it again. Plus, its produced by Peter Jackson. Yes, THAT Peter Jackson. ;)

Haven't seen it. Thanks for the tip.

Dead Alive: An Australian zombie flick, this movie gives rise to some of the most memorable scenes in movie history (at least in my mind). Like the kung-fu wielding Catholic Priest vs. two zombies. Or the lawnmower wielding maniac vs. horde of zombies. Or, perhaps best of all, blender vs. zombie baby. :]

Seen it, loved it, and listed it as my favorite all-time horror movie in another thread. Directed by Peter Jackson.

Six-String Samurai: A post-apocalyptic movie, you follow in the footsteps of our hero Buddy, on his trip to Lost Vegas in order to take the throne from the recently departed King Elvis. Of course, he'll have to fight Death and the Red Army in order to take the throne. Excellent, awesome movie.

Interesting. There's this post-apocalyptic movie called The Quiet Earth that I rather enjoyed.

A fellow junkie eh? Good to know. The wife tolerates my cult movie viewing, but she lacks enthusiasm. Trainspotting is one of my all time favorites; check out the original novel by Irving Welsh, and it's sequel Porno. Also, if you liked Trainspotting, check out the 'prequel' in Boyle's 'money bag trilogy', Shallow Grave, also starring Ewan, and also set in Scotland. 28 Days Later has a shot at becoming a cult classic too.

I've seen Shallow Grave- decent, but no Trainspotting. As far as the novels, I'm always looking for an interesting read...

As far as alot of the suggestions go, I'm not really into the Troma-type stuff, so if a movie's called "Killer Surfer Babes from the Planet Xaxlsplat", then it's probably not my cup of tea.

Oh, yeah- I forgot to mention A Clockwork Orange: Ultra-violence, anyone? Ultra classic, IMHO... Also see Dr. Strangelove and Shock Corridor for proof that people were weird even way back when...

hmm.. when the subject is cult films, I thought one of you would have mentioned Rocky Horror.... it's not really a favorite of mine, but it was lots of fun to watch in the theater, if you don't mind getting wet and getting rice down your shirt....

Yeah. It sucks. Some people think it sucks so bad it's funny. I think it sucks so bad it sucks. There was another movie in the same vein by that Brian Whatzizhoozit that I remember as not being too bad, though.

Also not a big Reanimator fan, but Videodrome was pretty good... I'm a big Cronenberg fan, although Shivers was utter garbage. I just can't seem to find a parasitic piece of poop to be all that scary.

Definite must see on Meet the Feebles - think of it as the behind the camera look at the muppets and what they get up to when they're off-stage. Absolute classic.

Also on the comedy side Hercules Returns - three aussies doing an ad hoc dubbing over of the classic italian film when it turns up without a soundtrack.

And if Fight Club, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting are managing to get into this list of cult films (don't get me wrong I agree they're great, just wouldn't rate them as cult) then add Leon and Lock Stock to the list.

Yow!!! I am glad that I am not the only one to see that...City of the Lost children is one of my favorite also.

Yeah, one of mine as well. The same director also did Delicatessen and Amelie, although I haven't yet had a chance to view these...

Not necessarily cult films by the classic definition, but they do have a very specific, very openminded target audience, and all of these movies could be described as having "cult followings", and would generally appeal to the same people who would normally view more traditional cult movies. They fit into the category in that they're extremely bizarre, involving strange and unreal occurences and paranoid delusions/hallucinations. Not necessarily Shallow Grave, though, as I remember it as more of a somewhat offbeat suspense movie. I've never seen Leon, but Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (although good, but not as good as Snatch, IMHO) certainly has no place in this category.

I love Holly Hunter, and have ever since I saw the movie Copycat in the theater on- erm- well... altered. Now that is one of my favorite films.

Bela Lugosi is Dead

I absolutely, positively, flat-out REFUSE to watch another Ed Wood movie. I rented Orgy of the Dead, and almost barfed all over my orange suede Docs... That was the absolute worst movie I have ever attempted to watch.

I am a fan of fight club and cube. I loved Highlander and that was a definite cult flick in the 80s. I do not search them out of anything.
