Boy, the Restuant at the End of the Universe has got the wrong gimmick in that case! :D

Oh, that place if fine for your fancy city-folks.

The good ol boys I know have little need for our meals using all that fancy talk.

Our groups has been solidly playing D&D and d20 variants for about two years now, and no sign immediately of changing. However, we are not by any stretch D&D only - we fell in love with Alternity from 1999 to 2000. It still has great fun potential, and its rules are very loose for fast cinematic play, with a healthy does of realism for its wounds and damge mechanic.

It's funny, though - early this year, we did an alternity one-shot to introduce some new players to the game, and wound up, without even realizing it, using the d20 cyclic initiative. :D We had a small laugh riot when we realized what we were doing - the new players just assumed it should be that way.

My group has been playing various D20 games since August 2000 up until now.

Last night I ran a intro Alternity game for most of my group.

To put it short, they LOVED IT.

Cool. I like alternity. It's a good game.

As for my group: No, not really. We love d20. We lap it up like a thirsty cat laps up milk. It's a smooth, flexible system that accomodates a sense of adventure and the class level system keeps the characters sensible with a minimum of fuss, helps build the sense of teamwork and keep the players eyeballing the future.

It's a great system. Now and then we take a break from it and play some other games, but I sense we will always come back to it.

I'd like to point out that I am blessed with a great group in one respect:

If I pick up a new system, and it looks cool... I mention it at our next gaming session, and we arange to try it the next time in leiu of our normal session. Sometimes we vote "nay" for it, but somtimes we give it a conditional thumbs up for further use. I never have to convince them to try it the first time.

I bought almost all of the Alternity system... no one in these parts will play (one day, I'll get my chance).

I miss Skills and Powers as a DM and as a Player... I dont like 3e all that much when you get down to it.

Woefully all the gaming groups I know love 3e... so for now I'm stuck.

I was never that enamored with d20 as a set of systems, but I do like 3E more than any other edition of D&D. Since D&D came out, I've played Shadowrun and Fallout pen and paper as well. I'm hoping to start up a new homebrew game when I get a chance (never).

Worship the almighty d20 system *All hail* ;)

Really though it has good and bad points like every system out there. But I haven't gotten tired of it yet as it's only been out for 2 years. Besides Wizards has told us to keep playing ;)

Starting to Look

My group has enjoyed the newest edition of D&D for the past couple of years. As a DM I find the higher levels a bit dull these days, but my players enjoy it. I find myself looking for a new system that I can sell them on - but for now we're sticking with D&D. The mechanic I find most tiresome is levels, but it is quite simple and easy.
