Nycarus, thanks for the summary and helping me avoid the horrors of that other thread. And Greg, I do like your ideas and I think they will serve as some additional inspiration for me in coming up with more variants. And while I am at it, Dagger, thanks for the summary from the Dragon I referenced. Always good to have a back-up of that information. The article those came from gave me the idea for doing more variants.

Also, Nycarus, I use variant base classes and variants of the classes themselves when it comes to 3.5 (at least for the campaign I am planning in Lankhmar). It will have many a strange and wondrous thing I am hoping.
