There is a review on rpg.net just up today. Written by some fellah nicknamed Ace hmm.....

There is a pretty comprehensive review of what is on the site you can check out

i'll voice a dissenting opinion. i used to have a Pyramid subscription for several years, but let it lapse because i felt i wasn't getting anything out of it.

i found that the vast majority of the articles weren't very useful in my game. (this was when i was playing GURPS heavily, even.) there was only maybe three or four articles a year that i felt were good enough to save and use. i find that even Dragon Magazine has a higher batting average than that. (i find at least one useful thing in every issue of Dragon nowadays.)

i didn't spend much time on the Pyramid message boards, but wasn't too impressed with them in the little time i did spend there.

having access to GURPS playtest files was fun, though -- i even got playtest credit in two GURPS books.

i know it's only $15/year, but when my subscription came up and i realized i hadn't gotten anything out of it in over 9 months, i decided to let it go.

of course, i haven't seen it in almost 2 years, so it could be different now. and where i might not find something useful, obviously others do.

YMMV.

I do

I think it is worth $15 but not a lot more than that. I subscribed about 5 months ago and have gotten enough out of it that I expect to be happy after 12 months.

Oh, yeah!

I personally think close to 40 installments of Ken Hite's Supressed Transmission column is worth the $15 all by itself. Add in the odd Adventure Pizza, adventure ideas (even if they're not for a system I play), the comics Dork Tower and Murphy's Rules, and, as mentioned, the playtest files and it is definitely worth it...

I've been a subscriber for 3 years, and will happily resub when my subscription is up.

I think that the mileage varies on Pyramid quite a bit. If you like Steve Jackson Games and pretty much hate White Wolf and D&D, it's a great place to hang out. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great threads over there but Pyramid is really a house organ and there's nothing wrong with that. They can only publish what they receive. It'd be nice to see some Designer's Notes for other books like Nobilis, but hey, it is what it is.

I concur. I used to freelance reviews for Pyramid (back when it was a print mag), and kept a subscription going for awhile. It just hasn't been as useful to me since Scott Haring's tenure as editor ceased.

In particular, the news was always old (in some cases many months old), Ken Hite's charming columns had begun to wear thin, I never read the comics anyway, the reviews grew less through, and the magazine seemed out of touch with what was going on in the industry: it seemed to be growing more house-organ-ish again.

I had strong reservations about resubscribing over a year ago, but decided to give the magazine another year to see how it played out. I didn't renew this year.
